Kenji, Portnoy, I was just echoing Dave148’s Post above.
I am not really aware of who is who or follow either!

Yes, understood. It was Portnoy who reviewed the place. Kenji mimicked their recipe, something less likely to directly draw traffic.

Click the following link for a video tour.
When eating at Wells, it’s like eating in my home.

    https://wellsbrosracine.com/

Wells is back up and running on all 8 cylinders!
Ordered for take out the Wed Special Pizza with two toppings, basil & pepperoni for $15, tax included.
At 5pm the Restaurant was full up, busy and everyone having a good time!
The Security Guards are Racine Cnty Sheriff's Deputies and very friendly and helpful. Not, your local ‘Rent A Cop’.
The pizza was thin, crispy cracker like crust, lightly charred in places and the basil was the predominant taste.
My wife says my pizza is better but it’s not, as my crust even with the Viking’s Convection oven is not as hot as the gas monster that Wells has!
I passed on the Mexican Pizza of the Month, and am waiting on what’s next?

    I will repost!

This week only brought back by popular acclaim,
    Lasagna Pizza!!!
Double Dekker with thin crust and lasagna noodles separating the two layers with
sausage on the bottom and basil on the top.
The extra large is almost $30 but sufficient for us for two meals.
A similar pizza is offered on Valentine's Day but in the shape of a heart.
You can see the pizza in the Wells Facebook page.

We ordered the Lasagna Pizza for take out, heated in our gas oven.
Deep Dish style, the crust holds up to the weight of a slice.
Ground beef is used for the next layer followed by Noodle and then cheese. Sauce is included somewhere.
If I were to order again, I would ask for a sausage layer instead of beef or a mixture. My palate screamed for sausage!
I few slices of pepperoni and/or anchovies in top would be heaven I think.
I would think a whole pizza would feed at least 5 people if you dine in.

So the FB video looks pretty but doesn't give an idea of what's in there. I wish they would have shown a cut slice. From the bottom working up, it's dough, noodle, dough, cheese, ground beef, sauce on top?

We recently had the new Pizza of the Month.
Three Cheese, Mozzarella, Cheddar and Asiago.
    For you cheese lovers.
We also had Basil Mushroom and Sausage.
    Our usual is Basil Pepperoni.
Of the three I like the Basil Mushroom, Three Cheese and Sausage in that order.
Interesting, I and another felt the pizzas required salt?

Finally made inaugural visit Friday. Sausage and peperoni were on the pizza as the thin crust makes putting water laden veggies off limits for me. Excellent rendition. I still favor Zaffiro's on the east side but they are right there. I did watch the news last week and they did a segment on Maria's pizza in Milwaukee. It has new owners as they had been closed for 1.5 years. They are keeping all of the same recipes and they showed them gearing for the this weeks opening by fine tuning their pies. They were great thin crust in the past (and looked good on tv in this segment). The owner did also mention that they put any veggies on post oven because of the water content. I agree.

Wells Brothers closed for annual vacation from July 20 until August 5th.

This allows stomach space to try the Mars Castle Ruben, a BP smash burger or Buona for the Italian beef.

Gotta be the Mars Rueben with a side of German Potato Salad. That is one gem.

Cathy, I assume you're talking about the smashburger served at Interstate Dogs, located in the BP at Hwy. 50 & I-94. Definitely interested in what you think of their product.

Two old school Kenosha drive-ins, also worth checking out, Big Star and The Spot. And, of course, a stop at Tenuta's Deli for some Italian staples to bring home for later.

Almost forgot, just up the street from Wells Bros. is La Tapatia, a tiny taqueria inside a tiny Mexican grocery store. Terrific Tacos served in the slightly grungy ambiance I love so much. Really good Tamales too, served in house, or available by the dozen, to go.

We've stopped in there for a pre-pizza taco, or two, on numerous occasions.

Don't skip on Mars' cheese curds. They list them as "world's best" and they are outstanding -- almost a tempura batter, light and crisp.

I just went here. Worth the drive. Chicago needs a place like this, at least on the north side. Old school, cheap, family-friendly, all walks of life, warm, centered around spectacular cracker crust tavern pizza. Tremendous.
