I remember their apple cheese crisp dessert, which has been gone for a long time. It was the dessert at Roy Rogers and just now I found some knock-off recipes.

I checked their breakfast menu, they offer creamed chipped beef on biscuits aka Sh*t on a Shingle or SOS. That is something worth remembering.

I also saw in Ohio there are some Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. A family friend was his nephew Phil Treacher. He was the first person I met who attended Cordon Bleu in Paris. I have never been to his uncle's namesake fish store.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

On our September trip, we did a lot less adventure eating than I desired.

When we were at the OH/PA border, I went to Waffle House. I passed many this summer and never went, but I did on this trip. For the first time, I did not order their hash browns. I ordered a grits bowl (think rice bowl, but grits) with a side order of sausage gravy.

When I had time in CT to check out pizzas and local grocery stores, I ended up hanging in the hotel. It was a mission of mercy.

Drove home via Rutgers University to visit my niece. We met at 6:30 AM at Bagel Nosh. I had a delicious whitefish sandwich and everyone else had a bagel sandwiches.

When I was at the OH/PA border again, I had to find something new to try. The Bagel Nosh earlier in the day really got the deli itch going. I found a place that looked like it would fit the bill, but not open on Sunday.

Kravitz Delicatessen with a sign promising warm rye bread daily looked worthy of a try, though not on this day. Just today Yelp advised it is temporarily closed, so double-check before aiming for it.

Ended up at a Long John Silvers where the manager had not eaten their food in 15 years. This was learned when I asked for a recommendation. If I were not hungry, I might have just turned around and left.

Incidental information from this trip: the last Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips is in Ohio. If it was open on Sunday, who knows we might have gone.

Except for the exorbitant salt content I kind of like LJS once every two years or so. None near me since the one on Touhy closed.

I have fond memories of rare trips to Arthur Treacher's (the last in the area I remember was on Greenwood just south of Dempster, the edge of Park Ridge and Niles), but every time I've tried LJS it's ended in regret. Fish is no longer cheap, treat it as a luxury (e.g. Boston Fish Market) and I'm a lot happier.
