For me, the fact that the show under-showcased its participants didn't diminish the result at all. These were some talented folks, cooking in a seriously challenging environment. Their sheer, unbridled sense of accomplishment was well earned and in spite of some bizarre editorial choices, the undisputed bright spot of the show.

I missed the first two shows, and the only one I watched in its entirety was the finale, but all of the contestants that I was able to catch were fantastic cooks, and yes the host of the show was not as engaging as the two hosts on the original Great British Baking Show, but I did not find her objectionable, and she was way more pleasant to watch than Gordon Ramsey. All of Gordon Ramsey's cooking shows are toxic, except for the show he does with the children. The host is returning for season two, as are the judges. Master Chef was on Fox last night, and I watched it for about two minutes, and then I had to switch to a different channel. BTW- Graham Elliot is a judge on Master Chef too.

Soon as I read this I clicked over and watched the Chicago episode. Dear Sweet Carrol Channings Ghost! I feel like canceling turkey day and following the exact Taco Chronicles Chicago trail.

Is this a reference to the filming crew that was at Lincolnwood and Harrison yesterday?Gypsy Boy wrote:For those who are "Bear"-obsessed, they've been shooting for Season 2 in our neighborhood in NW Evanston for several days now.

“The Bear” is giving us just that, with the announcement on Monday that the award-winning comedy-drama series about a local, family-run business will premiere its long-awaited second season exclusively on Hulu on June 22.

Not sure how realistic all the industry stuff is but much of it rings true (based what I've observed, read and heard from my professional friends over the years). And the local color is also a lot of fun. Hoping it comes back and that subsequent seasons are as strong and thoughtful as the first one was.

Rick Bayless Rips ‘The Bear’ for Glorifying the Ugliness of Restaurants
Oops. I forgot about this. This was one of the in-flight entertainment TV shows on my flight from Tokyo Haneda to Washington Dulles back in April. I think I watched the entire first season. It was pretty good. I guess it just did not leave a lasting impression on me.JoelF wrote: I really enjoyed The Big Brunch on max (formerly HBOmax).
Hosted by Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek), with Sohlla Waylly and Will Guidara as additional judges, it's your basic Top Chef etc. formula with two contests and one elimination per episode, but focused (mostly) on brunchy things, and a pretty hefty prize ($300,000).

“If you’re a mother of a teenage boy that’s watching that show and he goes, ‘Mom, I want to work in restaurants,’ would you let him?” Bayless said at the event. “No you wouldn’t. That’s like the worst profession in the world.”
