I stopped by Jewel to collect corn. I could not find any.

When I asked the produce manager, it was very clear he'd been answering this question all day: "There is no corn, because the weather has not been favorable for growing. Perhaps in two weeks, we might have corn." As he said this, it all made sense, I told him I did not need further explanation.

I caught up with him a little later, "Oh, you are stuck saying that a lot today." "I'm stuck saying this for the next two weeks. Doesn't anyone pay attention to the weather beyond Chicago?"

That's the corn report for today.

Hehe...after about the third time answering that question, I would post signs around the produce department stating the very thing he repeated all day. ;)

My Jewel had a bunch of corn. Looked pretty anemic, but although skinnier than expected, the few shucked ears I saw among the piles didn't have any of the dry kernel tops. I'd have bought some but my fridge is an absolute glut of melons and cherries. Going back on Sunday for some ears. Hopefully there will still be some for me.

I'm not surprised some stores may have received corn. It is also not a surprise about the weather affecting crops.

Farm stand by me had to get their corn from Southern Indiana for the time being. That's never happened before as it's usually ready by July 4th. Pickles are ready and a u-pick farm near me has beets, collard, mustard and turnips available for picking.

    Hi,

At another Jewel, there was corn today.

I'm going to check my local one once more.

Beets! There is a cold beet soup I like to make. Thanks for tickling my memory!

    Hi,

In celebration of National Hot Dog week, you can purchase Vienna hot dogs and get free Vienna mustard and their refrigerated dills.

On National Hot Dog day, you could also get the Rosen's buns, too. Their buns are two for $5 this week. At Costco, I get a better price, but with no poppy seeds, it is not as good.

Hi- I should have posted this last week when I first found out about it, but I was at the Jewel on Chicago Avenue tonight, and they still had 85/15 O Organic ground beef on sale for $2.99 a pound. There has also been a $2 off coupon in Just4U for it. I am not sure if the coupon is still available. Some of the packages also had a 50% off coupon on them too. I checked the date, and they expire on 9/20. I noticed that a few customers peeled off the 50% off coupons, and I assume used them on the ground beef that expires on 9/26. The sale ends on 9/24. When I was in the Wilmette Green Bay store last Thursday, they had a ton of them, but tonight I only saw maybe 10 packages.

I am sorry. I just assumed that Artie would post this. Jewel has another word of the day on 11/8, which is today. It is Dorol Gardens flash frozen crushed garlic, ginger or sauteed onions. Amazing flavor is the word to use to get it for free. I was in the Wilmette Jewel on Green Bay yesterday, and I looked in both the produce and frozen section, and I did not see it.

For those people who are Just4 you members, check and see if you have a personalized deal on Lucerne cheese. A lot of people have a personalized price of $2 or less. I have a personalized price of $1.64 for the 8 ounce packages. They also have B1G1F on the 8 ounce chunk or shredded. The catch for me though was that my personalized price of $1.64 was only good on the chunk cheese, and I did not realize that, and I bought one shredded and one chunk last night, and so it ended up costing me $3.39 for both.

You can do this deal once a day though, and so I will go back in a few days and get two packages of chunk cheese for $1.64. You can only get one package a day at that price. I also got Edy's pumpkin pie ice cream for $2.49. Hope this helps, Nancy

Apropos of little, at least to me as I don't typically shop at Jewel and the last time I had frozen pizza was freezer burned cardboard tossed into a machine in a upper Wisconsin bar circa 1975

My point you say, Turkey Hill Premium was Cook's Illustrated top choice for nationally available chocolate ice cream.

I was at a larger Jewel today for a quick trip to pick up a Taffy apple that I take when I visit a friend in a nursing home.

I was in a hurry because my daughter was coming by to pick up some items from when she lived here. She had mentioned she and her BF had not had any thanksgiving due to personal issues with his family.

I realized I had everything for a minimal but complete TG dinner except dessert (including smoked ham and whole turkey). I thought I'd buy a package cake that would keep several weeks till I could take it to a dance or something if she didn't want it, not a fresh cake I'd have to eat all by myself if she turned me down.

So I asked 3 people: someone near the ethnic foods aisle, in the bakery, and at customer service. I explained what I wanted, and offered some possibilities but I was open to other ideas: Stollen, Lindt cake and fruitcake (well not fruit cake but maybe something in the same area). All three insisted they had nothing like that.

Now, Aldi has (at least in the past) TWO kinds of stolen this time of year, and Jerry's has lindt cakes, sometimes several kinds. ,Do those who go to Jewel regularly (I don't) agree that is normal? This was 8 AM, so going to Aldi (closed) after Jewel did not help.

In retrospect, I should have checked the packaged bread aisle, or just bought a bakery cake and insist she take at least that.
