Hi all! I'll be hosting the June dessert exchange in my home in Evanston. It will be the typical exchange - I'll make a light dinner for everyone, and then we'll share desserts. Everyone brings one dessert (no need to double recipes), and be sure to bring containers to bring home extras. In case of allergies, I do have a dog and cat, but the dog will not be around. No promises on our friendly cat. I can host 10 people. Newbies are always welcome! Hope to see you then.

    Hi,

Pencil me in for now. I will know soon if I have a conflict.

Sorry I am not as absolute in my response as I would prefer.

I'm planning to make a cake (to be honest, it's a practice birthday cake for Spencer). The cake is a white cake with sprinkles, chocolate mousse filling between the layers, and a marshmallow buttercream frosting.
And dinner is a bulgur, eggplant, tomato dish from Ottolenghi Simple, plus more food from Pita Inn.
I'll send my address out tonight. See everyone on Sunday!

I have this thing about not going out to buy an ingredient. It saves me lots of time.

What can I make today without leaving the house for an ingredient?

Engel Family German Chocolate Sauerkraut Fudge Cake. What I liked about it most was no need to squeeze the sauerkraut dry.

I may switch to another frosting recipe I like, but the cake will be krauty.

I'm thinking a sauerkraut chocolate combo might be good pregnant-lady food :)

Spencer, Kevin, and Jack were wonders.

    Hi,

My family pounced on dessert when I returned home.

Joan - I did a search on the origins of 'my tribe,' does DougK ring a bell?

Terrific food and great conversation, thank you Laura and everyone else!

It was a post where I referenced him.

DougK posted here a few times related to events. I was there when he pronounced, "I have found my tribe!"

Thanks to everyone who came last night. All the desserts were delicious. Also, you should know that after everyone left, Spencer was making up a song that went, "the best thing in life is love, not counting dessert."

Oh sweet Spencer! That story about his making up that song just MADE my day! Laura, thank you for opening up your beautiful home and for serving such a delicious and delightful repast. The entire gathering was pure perfection! Conversation, Confections, Cooks and Contributors!

Here is a link to the recipe for the lemony no churn ice cream. The link also includes a link to the candied sesame seeds topping. I hope you enjoyed it as I did as a lovely summery dessert!

celia: i didn't realize what the recipe was until you just posted it: it's basically frozen posset, which was a middle ages drink that evolved into a custard that sets up from the lemon juice. it was delicious as were the candied sesame seeds. i might add the css to my chinese sesame seed cookie recipe, which i havent made in ages but really love- the candied seeds can go on top...
