(Note: I have no business affiliation with WaSC or Groupon.)

I saw this morning, and thought people here might be interested to know, that today's Groupon deal is $4 for $10 worth of food at Wiener and Still Champion. You can buy the Groupon here http://www.groupon.com/chicago/ before midnight today (Thursday, October 14th).

For those of you who don't know, Groupon is a website with daily deals on miscellaneous stuff around the city (food, haunted houses, laser hair treatments - all kinds of stuff). Each deal has a minimum number of people who need to buy the coupon/deal before the deal is "on". If too few people sign up, then you aren't charged and no one gets that deal. The Groupon for Wiener and Still Champion is already guaranteed as "on", since enough people have purchased it. I've purchased Groupons before, and they have always worked flawlessly for me.

Posting this only because I thought it's interesting. Taco Joint is in the same space that Masu Izakaya was in, and this might entice some people (i.e. ME!) to go try it out.

Just visited the soon-to-be-closed Borders at Randhurst -- all cookbooks 40% off.
I snagged the last copy of Under Pressure by Keller.

Two Beard nominated restaurants' books are there: Bottega (Chiarello) and Noma. I've already got a Chiarello book, and I don't think I should pick up another Molecular Gastronomy book until I've tried a few more of Alinea's (besides, Noma's Nordic ingredients are even harder to get a hold of than Achatz' starches and texturizers).

Selection is still pretty good, your mileage may vary at other Borders.

LTH GNR Semiramis is not up for renewal this time... but it *does* have a Groupon (again) today! Which is quite excellent news!

Their crispy-skin chicken, Ive found, is typically very much worth the price of admission (along with a few of their sandwiches, especially the lamb..and, of course, the fact that theyre one of the few BYOB Middle-Eastern spots on that Kedzie stretch..)
