Hi all. I'm trying to find a nice place to take my sweetie for Valentine's Day that's not too expensive and is in the N/NW burbs. Any suggestions?

Hi Pie Lady, I can't really answer your question because I'm not really familiar with the N N/W burbs other than Le Titi de Paris, which is pretty expensive, but if you go to OpenTable.com, they have several Valentine's Day restaurants listed along with the specials and brief overviews of the evening's menu. Cheers!!

I would recommend two Evanston places, Jacky's Bistro and Oceanique. Jacky's Bistro serves well-executed French Bistro fare, and Oceanique specializes in seafood, is a bit more modern american, and I think a touch more expensive. I would consider both moderately priced and with the right atmosphere for Valentine's Day.

Also in Evanston, Chef's Station is having a special 6-course dinner 2/14 - searings at 6 and 8:30 pm, $63 per person. Hope the Check Please effect isn't still a factor.

Why? What happened on Check Please? The only complaint I had when I went was that the bread guy only dropped by once. And I was hungry later. But the food was good and they gave you a decent amount. A little pricey, but not outrageous.

Check Please was very positive. The Check Please effect means that the restaurant may get very crowded/overworked, possibly with quality implications, for a while after the restaurant is on the show. But I agree, I've had positive experiences every time I've been there.
