I know that the proceeds from the golden ticket sales last year were donated to the Anti-Cruelty Society.

Awww cripes, now I need to figure out how to use that crap. I wonder if there's a way to have Twitter fed to Google Buzz, so I can see updates while I'm there checking Gmail anyway....

You can take the twitter RSS feed and put it in google reader. That's what I do for a bunch of twitter accounts since I don't actually have a twitter account.

I'll give that a shot. I set their Twitter's RSS feed up in Gmail's Web Clips, but it's not very convenient because it's not always visible.

    Thanks for the tip!

In, what seems to be their 4th site redesign in the past 2 years, Three Floyd's has announced (via twitter) a new Dark Lord Day site. http://www.darklordday.com/

And when I clicked the link, moments after they posted it earlier today, the site was down. People are really raring to go on the golden tickets
Ronnie said I should probably tell you guys about my website so

    Hey I have a website.

kind of lame imho to just post the announcement on Twitter,

Id be interested in going, but since I avoid Twitter I doubt I will get a heads up in time.

    Here you go Jim,

How to use twitter without "using twitter".

    Go to search.twitter.com

Enter this query without the quotes: "darklord from:3floyds"

On the result page copy the link on the right named "Feed for this query"

Paste that URL into a feedreader (if you use one) or into feedmyinbox.com if you don't.

Then, you'll get notified via email or in a feed reader only when they mention the word "darklord" in their twitter stream. Feel free to change the query as you see fit----"darklord day" for example, would be more specific.

    Enjoy,
    Michael

In the FAQ's on the site it says the tickets will be on sale 3/17. Time is still TBD, but if it's like last year expect real early in the morning. It was like 4:20 am last year. Sale will be announced on twitter, the DLD website, Beer Advocate posts and Ratebeer posts. The twitter thing is just a way for them to boost their followers for future use. Not following twitter is not going to prevent anyone from missing out if they really want to go.

I saw the date as 3/17 as well, but I wonder if it just hasn't been changed since last year.

I doubt that it's just to get more followers on Twitter, as they rarely post anything worthwhile on Twitter anyway.

More likely, people will be setting Three Floyd's twitter notices to go to their phone the night before so they don't have to camp out in front of a computer all day. It's actually a decent idea, as much as you may hate Twitter.

I set a reminder on my Outlook calendar at work for 3/16. When I see the alert, I'll check the Dark Lord website, and if that doesn't help, I'll skim their twitter channel.

Either way, I won't be following their twitters...I looked at their page once, and as Llama pointed out, found it to all be useless junk.

This pretty much sucks, unless they post them at the end of THEIR work day (whenever that maybe), I'll be tied up somewhere by 5.

Yeah, I wish they'd be a little more specific.

I hope their servers are set to handle this...repeatedly getting "Internal Error 500" screens, then suddenly seeing that all the tickets are sold out would be very annoying.

Yeah I'd planned to have bellied up to a bar by that point but I have resolved to be sanguine about this. I'll just buy some beer during my lunch break and drink at work until the tix sale goes on. :)

So Jim, buddy old pal, you really don't need both your tickets, do ya? :)

Which URL are you beer nerds frantically refreshing, darklordday.com or darklordday.com/tickets?

This wannabe beer nerd is going with the latter and hoping for the best.
