I googled Mrs. Beeton, having posted
a passage with her name elsewhere, and I discovered that this entire text is available online:
http://www.mrsbeeton.com/
Haven't had much of a chance to look at it, but it seems to be a fascinating work including about 900 recipes from mid-19th century Britain. I'm sure Mrs. Beeton is known to some of the more historically-minded here, but I couldn't find any mention of her on the site.
If anyone strikes upon particularly interesting passages while poking around at this site, I'd love to have them linked/posted in this topic.
Yikes! Edited to fix spelling from "Breeton" to "Beeton." Thanks for the catch, LAZ.
