It’s August! Among other things, that means it’s time for the August Evanston Lunch Group™’s annual picnic, honoring the memory of the august LTHer, Tarte Tatin (aka Gail Adams).

We’ll convene Tuesday August 16, 12:30 pm, on the picnic benches under the shelter in Evanston’s Larimer Park (parking on Crain St. one block east of Ridge, or on Oak St. south of Dempster).

As usual, we’ll get carryout from a number of favorite places. Attendees willing to pick up sharable carryout for the group should sign up as such; others are most welcome too, to share whatever is brought. I’ll try to keep a list of who’s picking up food, and from where, as well as others joining us. By checking the list the day before or so, those picking up carryout should be able to gauge the appropriate quantities to bring.

    GAF - Luciana's (empanadas)
    nr706 - Fish Keg
    moetchandon - plates , etc.
    EvA - Zimi's
    Cabbagehead - Zimi's

Again, all are welcome. We have held the picnic even in the COVID years of 2020 and 2021, so hopefully nothing will keep us from gathering.

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

I will attend. Not sure what I’m bringing yet. I will bring the usual plates, napkins, cups and silverware.

Cabbagehead and I will be there in memory of dear Gale. We'll bring food from a new Balkan place in the old Rub space on Western just south of Lunt, Zimi's. Our verdict on our sampling of their food so far--it's good!

As it is now August, I am bumping up the thread. Come join us, if you can. The picnic is always good fun.

Good weather is a picnic tradition! And the second half of August is the most splendid time to be in Chicago.
