    Chicago's Unofficial Pre-Whisky Week Dinner

    In the spirit of keeping the liquor flowing, FIG Catering is hosting a whiskey pairing dinner on March 26th. The menu was developed to complement the flavors in whiskeys (from around the world) and we're teaming up with the whiskey experts at LUSH Wine and Spirits to find the perfect pairings. A LUSH expert will be on hand to explain the subtleties of the whiskey and teaching your palate to pick them out. Chefs Justin and Molly will be leading you through the menu too. It promises to be a fun (and educational) evening for all.

    First Course: Scallops with bacon, okra, and leek
    Whiskey Pairing: Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey [Denver, CO]

    Second Course: Parsnip-Apple Purée with toasted garam masala yogurt
    Whiskey Pairing: Penderyn ‘Ayr Cymru’ Single Malt [Wales]

    Intermezzo: Frozen Peach Sorbet with Homemade Ginger Soda
    Whiskey Pairing: Death’s Door ‘Naked’ Whiskey [Washington Island, WI]

    Third Course: Bourbon Brined Pork Chop with cider braised cabbage and fennel pollen whipped potatoes
    Whiskey Pairing: Prichard’s Double Barreled Bourbon [Kentucky]

    Fourth Course: Bittersweet Chocolate-Pear Tart with caramel ice cream and alder smoked salt
    Beverage Pairing: Goose Island Imperial Brown Goose 2006 [Chicago, IL] (While not technically a whiskey, this unique whiskey beer is aged in whiskey barrells and we thought would play well with the many flavors in the dessert. This bottling is not widely available and we're extremely lucky to be able to offer it as part of our dinner. Yeah, LUSH!)

    Food and drink aren't the only important things to us though (really, they aren't!). We have other interests and music is one of them. Our friends at fig media (not related) have taken on the challenge of pairing our menu with music. That's right! Not only will you taste and smell the experience, you'll hear it too. It will be a unique dinner and we hope you can join us.

    Wooohooo! I have been at work all week, racking my brain trying to think of the coolest pairings possible. This is going to be a fabulous dinner.

    I have to move this up...we still have a couple spots left for the dinner. We'll be going to LUSH this weekend to make sure the whiskey pairings work :twisted:

    Yesterday we tasted all of our beverage pairings and are extremely excited about the upcoming event. We will be pouring four unique whiskeys and one very special beer that will be great with the food (they're are now included in the menu above). Call to make your reservation!
