Hi- On a Facebook deals site I post on, somebody mentioned that McDonald's has just come out with three new items on their menu. Cinnamon rolls, apple fritters and blueberry pancakes have just been added to their menu, and for anybody that has the McDonald's app., you can get a free one if you purchase any size premium coffee or iced coffee between now and 11/9, and show your app when you check out.

    Hi,

I learned this morning as of last week: you can now dine in.

More importantly: one of my favorite places to visit the restrooms!

I remember the first time I ventured in to Chicago after shelter-at-home. I stopped at McDonald's for Big Mac and big drink. By the time I reached Chicago, I realized I had no idea where to find a public restroom.

Fortunately, a Chinese grocery store allowed patrons to use the restrooms.

This last year, I have gone camel by restricting drink consumption before I leave home or when out-and-about. I just could not always count on finding a friendly restroom.

I used to go there at least once a month for senior coffee. I wonder if they still have senior coffee or not. I have not been inside a McDonald's since before the pandemic started. I think the last time I was in one was Christmas of 2019 when I stopped at one in Chesterton, Indiana on my way to Michigan. I have no desire to go into a McDonald's right now just for senior coffee. I might go if I can eat outside. I wonder how they limit the number of customers inside?

Fun article, from both a gastronomic and a sociological point of view.

BTW, it is followed by a link to an article about Arby's that I think many of us would very much enjoy reading. And I would expect some comments, probabalys some even ribald, to follow. If you read the Arby's piece, do go on to read the "Readers' Choice Comments."

Among other things, this shows the influence and reach of Rick & Morty, the tv show on which the sauce was fetishized a few years ago. Given the hype, when I tried it, I couldn't believe how sweet and one-dimensional it was. I mean, there was a line around the block at the local McDonalds last time it came out. Crazy.

McDonald's (MCD) is out with an update to its burger lineup that will impact its Big Mac, McDouble burger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, and hamburger.

The changes include a softer bun, more melted cheese, adding white onions onto the patties for a caramelized flavor, and more Big Mac sauce, the company announced Monday.

Yup, a good comparison. CocaCola wanted to attract Pepsi drinkers by making a Pepsi-like product and assumed Coke drinkers would remain loyal despite the change. Not so much.

Ultimately turned into a great move and they didn't suffer in the long run. Just created more buzz for the return of Coke "Classic." A cynic might say that it was all part of the plan.

I've always been curious as to McDonald's in foreign countries, but refused in Paris when seeing the prices. About what I expected for Canada, approach & price. I've had poutine up in the Maritimes--it tastes a lot better than it looks, but I wouldn't be running out to Mickey D's for it either.

And I was trying to see if theirs looked any fresher, bigger, and my conclusion is that it did not. A double Big Mac--5 patties--thought I watching an SNL commercial--was funny. And a double fish is just wrong.

    Hi,

I had McDonald's in Paris in 1977. I had read an article in the Herald Tribune about a legal battle between McD's and their French franchisee who modified the recipes.

I knew the Big Mac special sauce had been replaced. Of course, I had to have one just to affirm: Special sauce was replaced by something akin to Green Goddess. I am so glad I got to try it for myself.

You can always stop in at the Global McDonald's on Randolph. The menu changes periodically but there are always some unique items from their international locations.

As for the double fish, that falls into the same category as the various iterations of Reese's Peanut Butter cups. Once the bread/fish (or p.b./chocolate) proportions are changed it becomes an abomination.

One very strange thing I’ve noticed recently at McDonald’s is that the price to make a sandwich a value meal varies greatly between sandwiches. For instance the cost to make a double cheeseburger a value meal is about $1.80, but a quarter pounder is over $4. This is for the standard medium fries and medium drink. Obviously prices will vary by location, but this was pretty standard for several McDonald’s by me.
