I have been in contact with the John Philip Sousa archivist at the University of Illinois. I came up dry to my query: where did he live when he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station during WWI? I came up dry.
Recently, I asked a curator at the National Museum of the American Sailor, who found some news: When his wife was in town, they lived at the Moraine Hotel in Highland Park. When she was away, then he lived somewhere in Lake Bluff. His band who accompanied him, they lived in Waukegan.
