I found this on another bulletin board and I thought I would post it here for any Klas fans.
    **************************************************************************
Please read the below, support this effort and pass along this urgent email!

    Hello Everyone!

There will be a benefit festival this weekend, Friday Nov. 20 through Sunday Nov. 22 to raise money to help with repairs necessary to keep the historic Klas Restaurant open. As many of you know, it is the oldest Bohemian – American Restaurant still operating in the United States. Its old world architecture (with wood brought in from the Czech Republic ) and colorful history (as an Al Capone hang out during prohibition) needs to be preserved in this age of tearing down the old to build new. Frank is struggling to find the funds to make the state mandated repairs (roof, plumbing and electrical need to be brought up to code) to keep this beautiful building a fully functioning restaurant that all of us can enjoy.

Ciba has organized this 3 day event which includes DJ Delfin, some awesome bands mixed with some Czech theater and hopefully even some Slovak folk dancing. There will be some food provided later on in the evenings. Our goal is to raise enough money to repair the roof and then some.

Klas Restaurant Donation $10 at the door.
5734 W. Cermak Road Doors will open on Friday at 7pm
Cicero , IL 60804 Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 5pm
    708-652-0795

Ciba and Rhythm on 22nd will be playing on Saturday Nov. 21st after the Czech theater comedy quartet followed by Toby and the Tremors and closing out with Worldband (C & R on 22 with Janey Age).

On Friday night Nov. 20th, for your enjoyment Distant Relation will start off the evening followed by Logical Chaos 2, the Czech theater comedy quartet, Skamacity and ending with Hazard.

Sunday Nov. 22nd will feature theater Bohemia performing the whole production of Divci Valka followed by our friends Voodoo Monkey Child (with lead singer Janey Age), C.I.A. (Czechs in America got back together just for this benefit so if you have missed their Czech folk rock – kind of like Celtic rock – then you can’t afford to miss this) and possibly closing with the Slovak dance ensemble Veselica.

Please come out and help us save this amazing place. If you can’t come on Saturday to see us play, then at least come out on Friday or Sunday to show your support. Even if you just come for dinner, please bring an extra $10 per person to donate for a very worthy cause.

    Thanking you all in advance,
    Toria

Oh no! I hope they made enough to keep this place open. I'll have to make another trip soon.

We were there about 5 weeks ago and one of their regulars (Ray) overheard me talking to my kids about the rooms upstairs and he offered to show us (after he got permission from the hostess of course).

He told us that they were most likely going to have to have the fundraiser due to the taxes issue. We really enjoyed our meal and we will have to get there again soon.

But just where is this macabre eatery getting its main ingredient FROM?? Only the survivors of this grisly ordeal will be able to tell you for sure!

Hammond, it might not be too late for you to book a seat at the table.

Are you sure it's a coding error? It could be a theme dinner. Klas certainly fits the description of a Gothic restaurant.

Was here Sunday pm and the place was full. Hope they made it past the city inspectors. Like a Bohemian Sabatino's or Myron & Phil's, some of the best stuff is "free" - terrific rye, liver dumpling soup, and strudel. My pickled beef and dumplings wasn't too shabby, either. But ask for gravy on the side. Man, that was a lot of gravy.

Any updates on Klas? Website says the dining room is closed for summer but still says Wednesday bar is open. Its only open Friday Sat or Sunday anyway. Have they closed for good or will they be back in the fall?
