I have an Irish friend who swears that lamb chops from Ireland are superior to those sourced from any other location around the world. She says New Zealand lamb is the closest but it's not quite there. Does anyone know, are there any butchers or shops in the Chicago area that sell lamb chops sourced from Ireland?

These different entitites may be able to advise where to obtain Irish lamb or perhaps advise another source to contact. If you do find it, please circle back to advise.

There is a thread on where to obtain prepared suet for puddings. This was a source:

It should be coming in the near future. There was a ban in place for some years:

I've had pretty amazing New Zealand lamb chops. Irish chops need to bring their A++ game to impress me.

Every place I know of that has US lamb, sells USDA Choice.
WE used to purchase a whole lamb at the 4-H auction but these are graded on the hoof and never quite reached Choice in my opinion.
But we did get to go to the 4-H Appreciation dinner, every year before ‘farm to table’ became a catch phrase.
I purchase from Fresh Farms now and once a year a ‘Baby’ lamb.
The New Zeland lamb I purchase from Sam’s is more akin to mild venison regarding the fat content.
When I was able to source USDA Prime lamb, it was the best I have ever had.
If someone comes up with a source, I would certainly be willing to try some.
We eat a lot of lamb especially in Indian/Pakistan/Middle East/Moroccan cuisines.

Some of the best lamb I've had in Chi has been from Halal butchers. The Lebanese Meat Mkt around 4600 Kedzie was wonderful when I bought 1/2 a lamb that I cooked for some Afghan refugees. Fwiw, I worked in Dublin and for me @ least this is as good. Tastes like lamb, not beef lite.

The long defunct Athens Grocery in Greek Town used to sell USDA Prime Lamb. They would have a cooler filled with whole Colorado Prime Lamb hanging, roll one out for you as you specified the cuts, wrap and package for you.
Best lamb I have ever had and cannot find any equal source for Colorado Prime.

Have had some very good Choice from Fresh Farms and some Good lamb from various Halah establishments but if anyone has a source for Prime, I would sure be glad to know of it!
