Looking for ideas.... I've used 6-in-1 in the 28 oz cans for more years than I can remember. The past few years, I've bought them at either Mariano's or Fresh Farms. Well, these days, I'm not going out and Mariano's has been out of this size since forever. (They have the 6 pound cans.) I thought I could buy them on Amazon but not at those prices ($32 for four 28 cans). Does anyone have any idea where else I might be able to buy them for delivery (either ordering them a la Amazon or a buying from a grocery (or other) store that would deliver--maybe as part of a larger grocery/other order)? Many thanks.

Instacart shows it (28 oz.) as available from Pete's Fresh Market.

Seeing that you’re in Evanston, Marketplace on Oakton had them as of Saturday. If you’ve got a local friend willing to run an errand for you.....

Out of curiosity, has anybody seen 7/11 tomatoes sold here in Chicago? I'm curious about them, as I noticed giant commercial cans of them last year at the storeroom in the basement of Gio's Cafe in Bridgeport (The bathroom is in the basement, so that's how I noticed them.) They had a similar generic looking label, and they seem to be like the East Coast version of 6-in-1 tomatoes. I'd like to see how they compare. They are also labeled as "ground tomatoes," but they do have citric acid added to them.

I always thought 6-in-1 needed to upgrade its branding given that Contadina can put 8 great tomatoes in that little bitty can.

GFS lists the brand on their website so if you're near one of their stores that might be a good place to look. It's a Stanislaus brand so I believe its only available in #10 cans (6 lbs, 9 oz).

Was at Joseph's Finest Meats today and they had 6-in-1 tomatoes. 6 lbs, 9 oz cans for $6.59. I doubt they will deliver, and you don't want to go out But . . . If you combined the tomatoes with an order of various meats, dry-age beef, Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, skirt steak, natural casing hot dogs and, my current crush, spicy beef sticks, it may be worth it to contact third party delivery.

Main reason I suggest this is Joseph's is tip-top I was there today. Also, if you are concerned about social distancing guidelines, they have a number system, lines on the floor and, after a certain number of people, the rest wait outside. I adore the place.

They also had cans of Cuoco "Seasoning for macaroni with sardines" contains raisins, sardines and the first ingredient on the can is Young Fennel. Never saw that before and I stupidly did not buy a can. Next time for sure.

Thanks all. We're not interested in the 6 pound cans and it's depressing to hear that tomatoes are now on the endangered list along with hand sanitizer, wipes, and flour. Sheesh.

We're not leaving the house and unfortunately, none of the neighbors shop at the right places (at least not the neighbors we've spoken to). So Instacart may be our only option for the immediately foreseeable future...or convincing our neighbors that they need to do a good deed!

of absolutely no help for most perhaps but we were always able to purchase both 6-in 1 and 7/11 at your local Restaurant Depot locations...but this was now 6 years ago so...how do they say it here "your mileage may vary".

The few reviews they have on Amazon are pretty good. Will have to try it. Reminded me of my wife's late grandmother. She loved pasta with garlic and anchovies but never made it because no one else in the family would eat it. She was happy that I joined the family because it became our shared dish. Looking forward to trying it with sardines.

If anyone is still looking for an alternative to 6-in-1, area Whole Foods are now stocking Bianco DiNapoli whole peeled and crushed tomatoes in 28 ounce cans for $3.99. The brand is a collaboration between California tomato producer DiNapoli and Chris Bianco of Pizzeria Bianco.

Thanks for this. I last looked into 6-in-1 several months ago and have pretty much given up seeing them again. I'll have to give these a try...gotta say, I REALLY miss the 6-in-1 cans, though.

Ha! I clicked on this thread totally forgetting I started it. Once again, my 6-in-1s have gone elusive. The local Pete's Market which almost always has it, is out, and I couldn't find them at the last Mariano's I visited (can't remember which one it was off-hand.) A-hunting we will go!

Good luck with your hunt. I've even tried the website of the company that makes them. They're gone--at least temporarily. All that is listed is the 6 pound can. They're nowhere to be found; correction: I am unable to find them anywhere.
I am grateful for your hunt and wish you success!!

I think I saw the big cans of 6-in-1 at Caputo's Cheese Market last week. No little cans.

A few unsolicited bits of advice:
    1. Cooked tomato products freeze well, so it'd be an option to freeze portions of a big can in old deli containers.
    2. Cento "All-in-One" crushed tomatoes are pretty good and readily available. Better than other crushed tomatoes that I've tried.
    3. I always have bottled passata (strained tomatoes) in the fridge for little jolts of tomato. Cheap, every Italian/ethnic market has it, keeps a long time.

Yeah, I found the large cans (I guess 6 pounds based on the previous posts) of 6-in-1 at Mariano's (South Loop/Clark Street) last week, but not the 28 ouncers.

I did happen to pick up the "All-In-Ones" for the first time (coincidentally) a couple weeks ago, and they were pretty good. I honestly never noticed them before.

I think it's time to bump this: I can find the six pound cans. I don't want the six pound cans. Has anyone seen the 28 oz. cans anywhere? Online, in-store, sitting by the side of the road, resting in a tree, ANYWHERE?

I've had no luck since my last post, and I look at the shelves every time I shop (I usually hit Pete's Market, Shop and Save, and Mariano's once a week.) I've been making do with the Cento All-In-Ones in the meantime. (And now, looking at my last post, I have realized that once again, I had forgotten I had started this thread. I do see that Jewel has fallen out of my shopping rotation since the OP in 2015.)

Escalon is owned by Heinz, I suspect a lot of the tomato crops intended for 6-in-1 were diverted for ketchup production which has been in short supply during the pandemic.

FWIW, I finally broke down and filled out the form on the Escalon/Heinz site and asked point-blank whether we (meaning ordinary retail consumers) were ever likely to see 28 oz. cans again. No answer. I waited a month or so and sent the same question in a second time. No response.
I recall reading on some other food-related board somewhere as I was "researching" this that Heinz is basically going to abandon the retail market for this product. Sadly, that seems more than plausible. And although I'd be very very happy to be wrong, I fear I am not. The lack of response, twice, suggests the same thing.

We’ve switched to Bianco’s canned tomatoes. They seem readily in stock at Whole Foods.

6-in-1 used to be in our tomato rotation too.

Seems you can order the 28 oz cans at https://www.gourmetitalian.com/6-in-1-p/6in1.htm

You could also divide and freeze the larger cans.
