Hi- I know there are some other people here that shop at the Jewel on Chicago Avenue in Evanston. Lately in the seasonal aisle on the Osco side of the store, they have been having good clearances, including lots of 75% off items. A few weeks ago when I was there they had 6 boxes of the soft puffs on clearance for 75% off, and so I got six regular sized boxes of Puffs for $3, and plus I got an additional $.25 off on just4u, and so all of that for $2.75 plus tax. They also had 75% off lots of pasta sauce too, and so everything was $.50 or less. I passed on that though. I had five jars of pasta sauce at home already including3 jars of Rao's that I paid $3 a piece for in December.

I personally like the Wilmette Jewel better, but they don't have good clearances, and it is farther away for me. The cashiers at the Chicago Ave. store are not always nice. There are two older cashiers there that I like a lot, and there are a few cashiers that are okay, but when they had the WOD for the pancake mix a few weeks ago, I picked it up and told the cashier the secret word before she rang it up. She then took out a piece of paper which she scanned so I would get it for free. I paid her then and she gave me my receipt and then moved on to the next customer. I had to bag my own groceries. I then looked at my receipt, and it listed the pancake mix on the receipt, and listed the normal price, and my coupon rang up as 0, and so I had to pay the regular price. I would have gone to CS to get my money back, but it was 11:00 pm, and CS was closed. I was not familiar with the cashier, and she was busy with other customers, and so I did not approach her about it.

This morning, I reach 281 points. According to my history, I submitted 115 codes to acquire these coupons. I collected my $25 gift certificate acquired with 275 points.

Hi- The no ads does not surprise me. This week they have a good sale on toilet paper, but good luck finding it. When I went to Jewel on Tuesday, I spent $41, and only saved 18% because some of the stuff I was going to buy they were out of.

My Sister that has the farm in Michigan called me up today, and there is nobody in her county that has the virus. The closest place is Grand Rapids which is 90 miles away. I asked her about upick this summer, and she is concerned that people are going to stay home. There is apparently one farmer doing upick strawberries in Florida right now. He can get away with it because it is food. I asked her if he is doing any business, and she said no. In Evanston currently 14 people have been diagnosed with the virus, and there are two residents at Three Crowns that are in Evanston Hospital with it, and the retirement and nursing home cannot get tests to test any of the other residents, and so I am sure they have more cases.

Maybe, though for their sake let's hope not.

I have two friends living in retirement communities who are isolated in their apartments. One going on two months, because pneumonia was an issue before this.

If you think you have it, start drinking 8 ounces of water every 30 minutes. That was advice offered to a friend who contacted her county health department. If her fever continued to rise, then they wanted a test. It went down and it was determined it was something else. I spent some time convincing this person to even make the call.

Are you saying this advice was offered by someone at a county health department? Which county? The claim that drinking water can prevent coronavirus infection is unsupported by any evidence. This recent BBC article discusses the claim, which seems to have arisen on Facebook, and one can find many more debunkings. It seems inconceivable that water could have any effect on someone who is infected enough to have a fever. It also seems inconceivable that such advice would be offered by a county health department. If it indeed happened, the person spreading the false information should be retrained.

I don't think the advice suggests that coronovirus is cured by drinking water. I think it suggests that if you don't feel well but want to see if it is something OTHER THAN covid-19, drink a lot of water. If you get better, it's not the virus. If you don't get better, then get tested for the virus.

McLean County, your tax dollars at work.

This person was already ill. I am thinking the water was to keep from dehydrating, which is not a bad thing. I think at this time last week, at least, perhaps it was believed this fever would power through and climb anyway.

It was never suggested as a cure nor interpreted as such.

My family medical professional had her first corona virus in ICU yesterday. A lot of doctors were interested in what she observed, what worked and what did not. Every case is a learning opportunity.

That's good to hear. I read too much into your words, as I had recently been reading about the "water cure" and other virus misinformation. The "every 30 minutes" was reminiscent of some of the quack recommendations I'd been reading about. No question, it's good to stay hydrated, especially when sick.

I apologize if I misunderstand, but that really doesn't make sense to me, on either of two levels. A, if you have the flu, or a cold, or bronchitis, or any number of things, drinking a lot of water will not make you feel better quickly. B, if you have something other then covid-19 that's making you feel unwell and, predictably, drinking a lot of water doesn't make you feel better, that does not warrant getting tested for covid-19. Exhibiting symptoms specific to covid-19 (fever, tiredness, a dry cough, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing) would, it seems to me, warrant a phone call to one's doctor about whether one should get tested for it.

Jewel has temporarily gotten rid of their soup, salad and hot bar, and they are asking people waiting in line at the registers to stay 6 feet apart. At the self checkouts people are not 6 feet apart though.

Jewel was out of Dawn yesterday, and I have to walk to the bank to get quarters, and so I might stop in the Target in downtown Evanston to see if they have any, and stop in Whole Foods to see if they have any flour.

That's a pretty regular sale price for a "flash" sale on Jewel yardbird. They do 5.99 pretty regularly for an 8pc. Not saying it's a BAD price, juss saying usually their "flash" sales are pretty great. I will say this as well: My store has had jerk chicken in the case with the fried and grilled a few times, and it was WAY better than I thought it would be. It had a noticeable paste and no label, so I asked the counterperson what it was, and he confirmed that it was Jerk, and also said, "it's better than you think." And it was. It didn't have the heat of a Walkerswood, but it had SOME heat - it was pretty surprising. I was expecting it to be far more vanilla than it was. It was included in the 5.99 8pc sale both times I've tried it.

Hi- I just finished my virtual meeting which went well, but we had too many people. We had 28 people. Somebody at the meeting though said that her husband works at Jewel, and he says do not shop early in the morning because it is more crowded. I think people want to get there early before the store runs out of stuff. He says it is a lot better after 9:00am. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- I just came home from the Wilmette Jewel on Green Bay. Somebody that posted on a Facebook group I am a member of told me that the Green Bay and the Skokie Boulevard store were practically empty. I got there about 2:00, and yes there were probably only half as many people as there normally is this time of day, but it was far from being empty. Almost half of the people were wearing masks. I did notice that they had more checkout lanes open so there were no long lines, and the person that rang me up, sterilized the belt between customers. They were out of toilet paper and paper towels and they were still out of wipes and thermometers. They had plenty of bread, and they did have some bottles of hand sanitizer located at the entrance of the store

They are giving out double Monopoly tickets 4/10-4/12. Normally I would go, but the less time spent at Jewel the better for me. I had not been there for 8 days. I did win a free bagel and a free bag of snack mix. I noticed that customer service was closed though.

I then stopped at Whole Foods, and they also had more people than I would have liked, but they also had lots of registers open, and they did have toilet paper.

Neither Whole Foods or Jewel had bread flour, although Jewel did had ceresota which would work. Jewel was out of WW flour, but Whole Foods had some 2 pound bags of it. Hope this helps, Nancy
