A South Loop Jewel-Osco is the first grocer in the nation to pilot an automated pickup kiosk, one of numerous investments grocers are making to prepare for a future of more online shopping.

I think the coupon for the O Organic baby carrots is only good for the rainbow carrots, because the regular baby carrot bags are 16 ounces. The rainbow carrots are 12 ounces I am pretty sure.

I've also heard it is good for the crinkle slices too, and apparently there are some 12 ounce bags of regular O Organic baby carrots too that it is good on. I have only seen the 16 ounce bags of regular baby carrots myself. On a Facebook group I post on, I posted this, and somebody said she did not get it, and so I wonder if it is a Saturday Sampler? I buy the 16 ounce bags occasionally.

The good news? Monopoly will be back on March 3rd :D

The bad news? No more tickets. It will all be automated and your virtual tickets will be applied to the Just 4 U Jewel app and or the "Shop Play Win" Monopoly app. So no more trading, selling tickets or asking the person in front of you for their tickets.

    Damn you Covid!

They are probably saving themselves a lot of money, too.

I certainly did benefit from standing behind someone who did not want tickets.

Could ask friends and neighbors who don't believe in Just4U coupons to use your phone number to get their Monopoly tickets.

The new plan will also eliminate the extra tickets that cashiers gave just out of niceness. I got quite a few extras that way especially when the game was about over.

On Jill Cataldo's couponing website, she posted a few days ago that she got a postcard from Jewel that contains four store coupons. All four of the coupons are worth $21. The first one you only have to spend $21, and that one I think expires on 2/18. The second one you have to spend $40, and the third and fourth coupons are also worth $21, but you have to spend more in order to use it. Did anybody here get this? I did not get this, but apparently some people got it the end of January.

That is a bummer that the Monopoly game is virtual now. I did not do as well last year though, because I did not go to Jewel as much because of the pandemic. I used to go twice a week most weeks, and now I only go every 7-10 days on average.

You have to have a J4U account to play the game, but do you need to download the J4U app, or can you just play online and just enter your phone number? It is going to be harder for people to win big items, since you can't trade tickets. There are several forums out there that trade game pieces, and they won't be able to do that this year.

No way are people who don't do J4U going to be willing to enter in your phone number so you can get their tickets. There is also a chance that if they enter in your phone number, a coupon which you applied to your account, will be redeemed by your friend.

No postcards from Jewel here. I'll ask my big-Jewel-spending friend if she got one. Quite probably it was a promotion by zip code prompted by the opening of a big competitor (Amazon? Pete's?) or a grand (re)opening of a Jewel.

You're right about the problems of sharing a Just4U account. I hadn't thought about that. Possibly could add coupons just before using them but that's a bit of a hassle. On the plus side, there are monthly rewards for spending thresholds similar to the free stuff from the Monopoly game (free bread, noodles, doughnut, etc) but I rarely make the threshold.

I went downstairs to get my mail last night, and laid it down, and I just realized I got the $21 coupons! The first one expires on 2/16. I have to go to Sams Club to pick up a prescription and pick up a few things, and so I was going to go to Jewel anyway. I almost went to Jewel last night before I checked my mail. I am really glad I did not. The first one you only have to spend $21 to get $21 back. The second one you have to spend $40. The third and the fourth coupons you have to spend $75, and so I doubt I will use those. The $21 and the $40 one I should be able to use. These coupons are just mailed to people with J4U accounts. I also heard that there are coupons that are appearing on door knobs too though. Hope this helps, Nancy

Along with the free chips, there are 88 cent Pringles (not quite as good a deal as Mariano's 99 cent larger cans. Jewel seems to be hooked on ok-but-not-spectacular chip coupons lately) and $3.99 Vienna Beef dogs (that price seemed pretty good).

Anybody tried the $8.99 giant shrimp? I'm curious but not 2 lb bag curious.

I am on an Albertson's board, where once or twice a month they send me surveys to do. I got one today on Jewel on a new rewards program they are going to implement. They gave me potential names for the program, and signage, and asked me which ones I preferred. It sounds like they are going to continue to have Just4U, but it sounds like it will be called something different. They are also having three different premium programs, which they are going to charge extra for. Kind of like bronze, silver and gold. The gold program would cost the most to join, but it would also have the most rewards. I have no idea when this project is going to commence. It sounds like it is similar to a paid program that Walmart started a few months ago. Hope this helps, Nancy

I noticed that Just4U has 16 ounces of frozen salmon from Alaska for $2.99, which is a steal. I assumed it would be Atlantic salmon for that price. I have a $21 off $40 coupon which becomes valid starting today, and so I am going to try to go to Jewel today. They also have Sea Pak B1G1F, but I am not sure if that includes their salmon burgers.

That 2.99 salmon...if you try it, I hope you like it more than we did. They had a sale on it last year, buy one get two free. I think I bought 9 pkgs total, thinking it was quite the bargain since each pkg was filled with 4 individually vac sealed fillets. For the price, I figured it was worth it and then some, since salmon is pretty unoffensive.

After 1st cook, wife 1.0 said she would never eat it again. She tapped out. And really put her foot down about not eating it again.

Jr and I found them edible. We finished the last pkg a few weeks ago, actually. We kinda laughed and had a silly "final goodbye" of our last pkg of what we had been calling "edible fish." I wouldn't buy them again, but that's me.

My description: Friday's "Lenten Option" at Rikers. All 9 pkgs were the same flavor, so it wasn't like we had a few bad bags. Very metallic, very fishy.

I truly hope yours are better, and at 2.99, they are definitely worth trying.

LMAO! Too funny. I find this a lot with proteins from our nearest Jewel. After too many assorted incidents, I now avoid buying beef, pork and chicken there. And I don't think I've ever bought fish there. Luckily, I have other options for these items that are typically right around the same price or just a reasonable bit more.

Thanks for the warning. Maybe I will just buy one package of the salmon then. I don't have enough room for 9 packages of fish in my freezer anyway. I buy chicken sausage at least once a month at either Jewel or Whole Foods when they have it on sale. I particularly like Amylu, but last time I bought some Gilberts when it was B1G1F. I also buy salmon burgers when they are on sale, and tuna fish. Otherwise I don't buy a lot of meat at Jewel other than what is in the healthy frozen dinners. Right now I have a specialized price of $2.36 on Healthy Choice, and last week I had a specialized price on Lean Cuisine and had a J4U coupon for it. Because of the weather I decided not to go to Jewel though, and my $21 coupon was going to kick in today anyway.

I did buy two smoked turkey legs at Jewel right before Thanksgiving, and they were not great, but they were edible, but I still have one left in the freezer to use up. Whole Foods does not carry them anymore unfortunately. When I buy chicken or ground turkey, I usually end up getting it at Whole Foods because it is all humanely raised. The Jewel at Plaza Del Lago used to have wonderful fresh fish because it was right next to Burhop's. I have not bought any fish from there in years though, and I don't know if it is still good quality.

Hi- On a Facebook deals sight that I also post on, I just reported about how I heard how metallic the salmon is. The administrator of the board says that the salmon on sale is pink salmon, and she has not had it from Jewel, but she has had pink salmon she has purchased at Aldi's, and she said it works out better combined with other ingredients such as pasta, as opposed to straight up salmon. She said it is mushy.

There is one protein I will buy there and that's the Hormel pork tenderloins they often have on sale--Buy 1, Get 2 Free this week, in fact. Vacuum-sealed and coming in a bunch of different weights, you can drop them into a sous vide for an hour and they're pretty solid, either on their own or chopped up and thrown into a stir fry.
