Checking out at the Edgewater Jewel (Broadway & Berwyn) on Friday, the clerk asked if I was playing Monopoly. When I said yes, she handed me a stack of game pieces. Of those 36, I won a donut/bagel and some free tickets. Yippee.

    HI,

I was behind a lady the other day whose instant winner and discount coupons were not all getting recognized by the scanner or cashier.

She commented she was just going to have try another time. I suggested she take this up with the manager on this visit. Thankfully she did, it cleared up the line and perhaps alerted management to a system snag.

I have less than 100 points until I get the $25 coupon. I find that a worthy and practical use of points. I have received instant wins for pasta, two donuts and two bottles of water.

Last year, I had two instant-wins for aspirin. I only got one bottle, then never found any in any store I visited. I almost never buy or use aspirin, so this may be a lifetime supply.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I have won six bagels, one sour cream, one small box of animal crackers, one box of Annie's graham bunnies, and a package of pepperoni. It helped that my favorite cashier at the Green Bay store closes the store on Saturdays, and I usually stop in there every other Saturday because I go right past the store. Last month, I was his last customer for the day, and he gave me 64 tickets. When I went in there recently while he was there, he only gave me 14 tickets, but I was only supposed to get 5, and I was not his last customer. A few years ago the Kosher Jewel on Howard was giving away a ton of tickets because the game was going to end in a few days. I got at least 200 tickets that day.

I finally got enough tokens in the Monopoly game to get a $25 Jewel GC. Once you cash them you go to customer service and enter your phone number, and then they scan the gift card, and it shows up as being free. I was told today that you have to wait for 48 hours after you cash in your tokens to pick up your GC.

On 4/12, 4/13, and 4/14 Jewel is giving double Monopoly game pieces, and so you get twice as many as you normally would. When I checked out today at the Wilmette Green Bay store, I got my free spinach through Just4U, and gave the cashier a coupon for a free bagel, and so I only spent $1.91. I also bought some bananas and a container of Blue Bonnet. The high school kid checking me out did not offer me any Monopoly tickets, and so I told him that I was playing Monopoly, and so he just handed me a stack of tickets. I got 19 total, and I won 2 free tickets, a free bottle of Wishbone dressing, and I won $10. The pieces needed for the $10 prize were on the same ticket. At least I finally won something besides free bagels. I also got 37 tokens. I need 200 tokens to claim the $10 Visa gift card, which is offered under Fandango. Hope this helps, Nancy

Baby Backs starting on Sun: 1.99 /lb. Limit 5 slabs. St Louis spares are offered at the same price in the same ad, but 1.99 is not that great unless they look fantastic. I'm targeting the BB's for when I do big cooks at the lake house and don't want to pay too much attention, but I prefer spares. If they are cryovacked, I'll buy enough for the summer after taking a survey of my available freezer space. They might be Hormel brand in a solution, but I can work with that for the price.

They had this sale last year as well. I bought a ton of them. Then about a month later, they were offered at 7.99/lb buy one get two free.

If you want to claim any Jewel GC, I would do it soon. I just checked the shopplaywin.com site, and they have less than $200,000 worth of gift cards left to give out. When you redeem your tokens for the Jewel GC. You have to wait 48 hours before CS can give it to you. They just ask for your phone number. I've heard there are lots of Monopoly tickets left too. I don't know if every store will distribute all of them, or just throw out the ones that have not been distributed when the game is over.

I was in the Wilmette Plaza Del Lago store yesterday, and they have a just4U deal where Safeway Select ice cream is just $.47 when you apply your $2 off Just4U coupon. I almost always get the reduced fat ice cream, but all they had at that store was vanilla which is not very exciting for me, and chocolate moose track, which has 240 calories. I then spotted some reduced fat peppermint safeway select ice cream on clearance in the freezer right in front of checkout for $1.99. I decided to get two packages of that. I assumed I would either get $1.99 or $2 off. When I looked at my receipt, I noticed that the $2 did not come off. I went to CS, and the person looked at the ad, and told me only the black cartons were on sale, and would not give me my $2. I could not get him to change his mind.

Aaaaand now, they follow up with the 16 lb bags of Kingsford for 4.99. The flavored 16 lbs too-cherry, apple, pecan, mesquite. I have a few of each to try. I normally use a hodgepodge of wood, lump, and briquette- 4.99 seemed like a great stock up price for the 16 lb. The coupon is in the j4u site.

It was not limited by coupon, so I made a few trips. Plus other family members picked up a few on their way over for other stuff.

We were down to four pounds of butter, so now there is a better butter cushion.

    Tks, Artie!
Sadly, them sh!ts are guilty pleasure of mine when they are priced right.

    For likeminded junkfoodists:
    There's a 1.00 off 2 in j4u.
I'll be going to Jewel today.
I have the 1.00 coupon for the cookies
Their system is spitting out 1.00 off Starbucks bagged coffee coupons at pos. It's on sale for 5.99. At 4.99, my wife will buy as many as humanly possible.

Their grilled chicken 8 pc is 5.99 - dinner is served!

I believe their 73% lean, 3lb ground beef chubs are 99c/lb. Lake house burger or spaghetti night when we are feeding 10 random kids - and 10+ family members - don't you judge me!

Also - I just started to look at the "rewards" section of that site. I got a bunch of free stuff comin to me!

The app tells me that $25 is all you can get in gift cards (which I've reached), but you can buy rewards points for 30 tokens, which can be worth $2 or more when used on specific items that aren't on sale.

After moving mostly to Mariano's, we've pretty much migrated back to Jewel. We're equidistant from the Mariano's on S. Clark and the "big" Jewel on Roosevelt that was formerly a Dominick's.

The staff is great and actually know what they're selling. Produce isn't half dead, we like the deli better, and it seems like Jewel has upped their game in terms of what they stock.

Over at mashupmom, somebody just posted that they were at the Plaza Del Lago Jewel in Wilmette today, and the cashier told her that the store just got a notice from corporate that they are having double Monopoly tickets all weekend. I assume that means Friday through Sunday. From what I understand the stores have tons of tickets they have not given out. A lot of customers think it is too much trouble to play the game. I just hope they pass out lots of extra tickets instead of just throwing them out when the game is over next Tuesday.

So far I have won $10, and gotten enough tokens for a $25 Jewel GC, and a $15 Visa virtual GC. I got 14 tickets last night at the Evanston Chicago Ave. store, and I won a package of Sargento cheese, and a bag of frozen veggies. They added more Jewel GC at shopplaywin.com last night, but they will probably run out again soon. Hope this helps, Nancy

I forgot to mention that I was at the Kosher Jewel on Howard a few weeks ago, and I noticed that they no longer have the Kosher Chinese takeout any more. They are putting something else in its place, but I don't know what.

Shopplaywin.com is out of store GC again. I don't know if they are going to add any more or not. Jewel has a good three day sale starting today, and I am going to go there after I check out Urhausen Greenhouse in Lincolnwood. Hopefully they have double Monopoly tickets today too.

Between the woman in front of me and my own shopping on double take piece weekend, I got 83 tickets. No winning pieces, but 2 more free tickets, a bag of potato chips and an iced tea plus 47 barcodes (and a lot of coupons for things I don't buy). Those barcodes got me another 138 tokens giving me just over 240, but they won't let you get more than $25 in gift cards. What else is worth the tokens? The rewards points can be worth close to $2 each (eg 4 got me $7 off meat), but that makes it like a $14 value compared to a $20 gift card for the same tokens.

Hi- Under Fandango, you can get a $15 virtual Visa card, which I think requires 200 tokens. There are also some free items you can redeem with tokens such as bagels/doughnuts, and gravy mix. I was at the Kosher Jewel on Howard last night, and even with double coupons, I only got six tickets, including an instant winner for two free tickets, two codes, a Shutterfly code, and two coupons including one for Simply Orange which I will use if it goes on sale in the next couple of weeks. I redeemed a frozen veggie coupon and a Sargento cheese one, and so I spent less than $5 for eight items. I might try to hit another Jewel on Sunday and see if I have any better luck. I have 53 tokens I have not used yet. Hope this helps, Nancy

The virtual visa card you get sent to you via email, and you can use it anywhere on line. It is not just for movies. A lot of people don't realize it.

At least we did not get any instant winner gravy mix this year thank god. I got a ton of those last year. I got at least nine free bagels though, and lots of other stuff. Some of it I could use, and some of it I gave away. I am on an Albertson's panel, and they send me surveys to do every month or so, and they sent me one last summer asking me what I thought of the Monopoly game, and I said please no more gravy mix. I am going to use the rest of mine on gas/grocery rewards. I think the max you can redeem is five. I will probably just use them on $5 off $5 worth of groceries. I already used my $25 Jewel GC on Wednesday

If that's true, the Jewel on 60 and 45 in Mundelein didn't get the memo. I just came from there. My receipt says I earned 4 Monopoly tickets; I was given 5.

Hi- It was on their Facebook page. They double the amount you are supposed to get when they post it on your receipt. Before double coupons you were supposed to get only two. I don't understand why more cashiers aren't more generous with the Monopoly tickets considering they supposedly have tons left. Apparently the store managers would rather throw away 10 boxes of tickets than give them away. One person has won the million dollars. I am not sure if there are any more to give away, but I think that means there will not be a second chance drawing. The last time I looked a few hours ago, they were out of gift cards. Hopefully they will replenish them. They have given out $3.5 million in gift cards already.
