Just received my e-mail with 99 cent eggs good through May 3. When I clicked to clip it, the site said the offer was no longer valid.

I knew I should have clipped that egg coupon when I saw it yesterday, but I halfway thought they knew what they were doing. I bet they honored it for a while until the system started popping with ppl buying 10 dozen at a time.

    PSA -
    Check dates, people.
I'm convinced it's just me, but the more life I live, the more I come to the conclusion that common sense is just not so common.

I went to my Jewel last night to buy crap-ton of mushrooms. Long story short, two weeks ago, the same Jewel had short dated bulk Italian snausage for 99c/lb, so I bought and froze a bunch. Now I'm making stuffed mushroom caps with it.

Anyway, I saw another "99c" sign in one of their meat cases, and it was for AlFresco brand ground chicken in vacuum sealed 1lb pkgs. Only 3 left, and all had white Jewel stickered sell by dates of May 7. SWEET, right? Well, since it's MY jewel, and I've seen some things, I looked at the MFR inked sell by date. 2 were indeed, May 7, but one was - I shit you not- November 21, 2021.

Just a few seconds earlier, one of the meat counter workers let me in on a few better marbled chuck roasts than the ones I was milling over, so I brought the severely outdated pkg over to him, and shared a laugh. A few years ago, I would have just snapped another picture for Instagram or Facebook, and put the pkg back.

Check the dates - never know. Having jacked up dates is STILL better than the Dominick's that used to be on Kimball and Belmont. Their "short dated clearanced meat" specials still bring a laugh to my face. On several occasions, I brought home things that were green and fuzzy on the bottom, and death smelling once the pkg was opened.

Between a 99-cent sale on a dozen eggs and a 99-cent sale on a gallon of milk, I'd buy the eggs, which are still likely to be good for weeks in the fridge, whereas the milk is probably a week away from spoiling.

Thanks for posting. This was a clutch sale price. $2.99 down to 75 cents. I'd never even seen the small street taco packages before, but at 24/pack, I grabbed the last three at Wilmette ten minutes ago. There was absolutely nothing in terms of signage that these things were on sale. I didn't even see them until they appeared from the side hidden behind other tortillas. (I had no idea Sweet Hawaiian tortillas were a thing)

Not part of the flash sale, but BOGO Nuestro Queso Oaxacan is worth stocking up if you use the product, 2 10oz's for $5.99.

Chicken Wing Fridays at Jewel. Their wing buckets are 9.99 on Fridays. I have a feeling that they are going to bump the price up. We like their "Honey Wings" and none of the other ones. My brain thing works well when it comes to food, music theory, and computer programming. Not much else. It nudged me to try something, and it worked out quite well.

    Three Chili Chicken Wings:
    Jewel Honey Wings
    Sesame oil
    Szechwan Chili Oil

Toss a little sesame oil with some Szechwan Chili oil, and some water to thin it out in the nuke to get them mixed together. If you work with sesame oil, you know how strong it is, so, a lil dab will do ya.

Toss the honey wings in it.
    You're welcome.

My kid and a friend hit the $9.99 hot wings Friday. They really enjoyed the chicken. Plenty for 2 starving fast-food-addicted teens plus another lunch. Only negative was that Jewel doesn't also have a good special on sides. They would have liked something like a $3 potato wedge addon.

Are the $.99 strawberries any good? I passed on the $1.99 one's last week because they were to green. I pass on the beyond burgers because they are loaded with saturated fat. So is the impossible burger. I might pass on the $2.99 watermelons at Jewel too. I never find any decent watermelons at Jewel.

IMO, the strawberries, blackberries and raspberries have all been exceptionally good at the stores I've been going to, but, I've pretty much ditched sugar for almost a year now, so anything that's even a touch sweet makes my tongue happy. The blackberries I got are fat, plump and sweet. The strawberries are plump and sweet and dark red. As my diet goes, so does my household's, I guess. We've eaten 10 pints of the 1.99 blueberries from Jewel since Sunday. This week, we'll be eating a ton of strawberries and blackberries. So far, they seem to be really good.

The strawberries I got two weeks ago that were in the two pound containers, were much better than the pound containers they had last week. Driscoll strawberries seem to be better than the other California ones, but none of the Jewel stores I usually go to ever carry them. Hopefully by 6/11 they will have homegrown ones at the Evanston farmers market. Most of the strawberries I get at Jewel are subpar compared to the homegrown ones I get from Nichols, and a few other farmers. I was in New Orleans during strawberry season a few weeks ago, and I had some local ones there, but when my Sister went to the farmers market to get some, they were all sold out. She got some wonderful risotto though there. I have never seen risotto at the Evanston market.

Highlights from today's Jewel ad: 77 cent 6-8oz shredded cheese, limit 1 per account; more 99 cent produce; 3/$10 party size Lays. Nothing to get too excited about...and the Stock Your Bullpen game is back. That's the one where every ticket says "Not a Winner". A real ray of sunshine boost to the self esteem that game is.

On a positive note, the 99 cent colored cauliflower was back last week. I got all 4 colors. Mountains of fancy pickled cauliflower.

I know that nobody asked, but Jewel is a big easy "skip" for me this week. I might consider stocking up on 77c Kraft / Bullseye bq sauce, but other than that, Looks like Tony's is where I'll be this week. I hit Jewel last night to grab more 99c strawberries and blackberries. Both are way better than they need to be. Just big, fat, sweet. Probably came from a test tube, no doubt.
