I have been able to time pick ups with trips to Wisconsin. The schedule has changed in several locations and I'm finding it difficult to make the new schedule work.

It has been an unprecedented year for them for sure. From a recent Facebook post:

Tree-Ripe Fruit wrote: Peach supply update

Due to the overwhelming demand for peaches this season, we have had to make the very difficult decision to place a box limit on a few of our delivery dates. This is a decision we hate to make, and one we don't make lightly. We truly do apologize for this inconvenience and please know our entire team is working tirelessly to get the more peaches to the Midwest to remove this limit ASAP.

We understand many of you are buying in bulk for multiple households, so we are strongly encouraging everyone who is planning to come out to go to our website's location pages to see if your stop has been affected. We will post updates regarding any changes to fruit availability there, rather than here on Facebook. We have links to each state's page below so you can find your location and date.

In an effort due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, we are continuing to make a big effort to keep our customers and employees safe. Unfortunately, this means we will be discontinuing the use of cash at all stops effective immediately. Please use credit/debit payment or mobile pay. If you must use cash for any reason, please have the exact amount as we will not be able to give change. If you are paying by check, please have them filled out completely before approaching the sales table. Thank you for your understanding!

Tree-Ripe also does citrus as excelsior noted in 2015. Free delivery to Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. We ordered a box of ruby red grapefruit and satsuma mandarins in December. The grapefruit was quite good. Very juicy. I thought the mandarins were okay. They had a more delicate flavor. I might order the January gift box which has 10 pounds of assorted fruit (grapefruit, honeybells, Shiranui mandarins and honey tangerines) plus a pound of Wisconsin raw honeoy.

Seeing this post, I placed an order for honeybells, never having had one before. They are super juicy, with a flavor I would describe as somewhere between mild and nonexistent. They were also by far the most expensive item. Does anyone eat these? Did I get a bad batch or is that what they're supposed to be like?

I didn't end up ordering the sampler box so don't have direct experience. Their website notes this about the honeybells:

THE HONEYBELL IS A PREMIUM EATING-ORANGE, WITH SWEET HONEY FLAVOR AND VERY EASY TO PEEL WITH SO MUCH JUICE THEY SAY YOU NEED TO SIT IN A BATHTUB TO EAT THEM!

I think you could reach out to Tree-Ripe and ask they same question. They seem to be pretty responsive.

might someone advise whether you need to pre-pay or reserve your box? or you just show up to the parking lot? i used their contact form but they haven't replied. i've always wanted to try but never been in town for their dates. this year works, so i just need to figure out how. thanks!

You just show up. Last year, they were running out of peaches after about an hour, so you may not want to wait until the last minute. On the other hand, last year was generally a bit... unusual?

From what I've read on their website, no pre-pay or reserving. Show up and stand in line.

The case we picked up last week (6/24) had (slightly) smaller-than-usual peaches -- for Tree-Ripe -- with excellent flavor and juice.

Will report on the case we picked up today, after they have ripened for a while. These are larger, more like the usual mid-season peaches.

Sorry for the very late notice. They’re at the Morton Grove Menards this morning until 10:30am. No Chicago stops this year, I believe.

The peaches we got in Gurnee last week are as great as ever.

And for those who live south or in NWI, they’re at the Menards on the Tinley/Orland border from 2:00-3:30.

Tree-Ripe is bringing back their citrus truck. They will be bringing grapefruit, oranges, pecans and maybe more. Some highlights: Gurnee on December 10, Morton Grove on December 14, Elgin/Hoffman Estates on December 17. I can do something with a 1/2 bushel of peaches. Not sure what I'd do with that amount of grapefruit.

    From their site:

Florida Satsuma oranges: $40 – 1/2 bushel box (approximately 22-24 lbs)
Florida Ruby Red grapefruit: $40 – 1/2 bushel box (approximately 22-24 lbs)
    Georgia Pecans: 1 lb bag – $13

They've also started what a Farm Share membership. $199 for a quarterly shipment of seasonal fruit. This appeals to the side of me that likes things delivered to me.

Peaches from the truck may be extra delicious this year but for an unfortunate reason.
But horticulturists at the University of Georgia say roughly 90% of the Peach State’s crop has been destroyed by bad weather and a warming climate.

The last time things were this bad was 1955, according to Lawton Pearson of Pearson Farm in Fort Valley, Georgia.
    ...
“Not Georgia peaches,” Pearson says. “I don’t think you’ll see Georgia peaches in the grocery store.”
One bright spot? The few peaches that make it benefit from having all the sun, water and nutrients to themselves.

“The peaches you’re left with are fantastic and huge and sweet,” Pearson says. “It leaves you wanting more.”

Morton Grove was today - line moved efficiently, accepting credit cards really speeds things up. Compared to previous years, the peaches are more varied in size. Also the boxes are smaller and "cheaper" - 1/4 bushel for $30. I guess 2 boxes = 1 old box?

Now to wait a couple days...

Are the peaches from Georgia? My Sister told me that Georgia does not raise a lot of peaches, and North and South Carolina raise a lot more. Michigan has a full crop of peaches this year.

You may not know the top 3, much less the rest. Here are the top peach states in the U.S.
    ...
The United States trails in peaches globally, producing only 5 percent of the world total. China, the native land of peaches, produces 45 percent of the world crop, according to Clemson Cooperative Extension.

According to USDA reports, the top 10 peach-producing states in 2018 were, in order, California, South Carolina, New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Washington, Michigan, New York and West Virginia, which put out 6,500 tons of the fruit.

Peaches were sold out in around 30 minutes today in Montgomery.

Still nabbed a box of blueberries, but couldn't get there at the start this morning.

Looks like Morris at the end of July will be our next (last) target date.
