I can't believe I'm mapping out a course to drive nearly 50 miles round trip at 5am just for 4 paczkis. You know you're an LTH'er when...

Does anyone know if this means fresh mango? (Or fresh raspberry or strawberry, for that matter)

We picked up a delicious cherry coffee cake-it was about 8 inches round with just a simple glaze drizzle atop of mass quantities of cherries. It lasted a few days and it satyed fresh and moist. There was a cheese coffee cake that looked amazing. It was a rounded rectangle with about a 2 inch layer of pure sweet cheese. On top of the flaky pastry was a thick dusting of powder sugar. We opted for the cherry but I am still pining over that cheese creation. Anyone try that?

Mom wants to know if this place has decent zeppoles. She lives in Downers Grove and I was teasing her about taking the hourlong trip on Metra & CTA. She is an LTH'er in the making: "Should I go that far? For Zeppoli, yes. Paczki, no."

Jesus, I'm happy I didn't see that 4:15 picture before I left! Luckily by the time I got there around 6 I was only 8th in line and I was able to wait indoors. I delivered some to work, with squeals of delight. The fresh peach is very tasty and not too sweet. Waiting for me at home is a mango, key lime, and fresh strawberry; however, I thought the strawberry automatically came with a squirt of whipped cream. Pish tosh. I can scoop some Cool Whip on it.
I love the fact that most of the fruity ones had actual fruit in them, not just jam. I think I'll have to alert mother.

I just had the mango...wow. That was worth the trip. It's a new flavor this year, so I'm hoping they bring it back next year. I can pick them up on my way back from Weber's.

When Mr. Pie realized this place was near Midway, he said, and I quote, "You foodies are nuts." For that he gets nothing!

Recently reminded just how wonderful their cheese danish is. A definitive version that for me parallels an old fashioned donut's apple fritter. My two favorite baked goods in Chi.

    Phil,

Does your wife's family's bakery open at midnight on Tuesday? I've been going to Bridgeport Bakery at midnight largely because of the midnight opening. I am usually up at the hour. Now 4 am when they have lines waiting to purchase, that is not my cup of tea. I watch the paczki updates later on the morning television while enjoying mine.

    What flavors do they offer?

    Regards,

I used to work at CVS Pharmacy on Harlem Ave. in Burbank. Had a man (customer) that used to come in with Pticek's Bakery. He would bring a whole case of asst. pastries for the employees, working that day. I don't know about the others, but I looked forward to seeing this man, everytime I was at work. This is by far, one of the best Bakery's around!
