5523 s. Narragansett - Chicago, Il. 60638 i have been going to this bakery for a long time . it is old school place the sweets are great & the bread is outstanding. near midway airport. cheese cake is to die for. this is my wife's grand ma's place

I have been enjoying the rye and white breads brought to the picnic. The little piece of paper stuck to the bread reminded me of German breads I saw at my Grandmother's home.

My niece loved the cheesecake. I saw her return to your offering a few times.

I will look out for this bakery the next time I am in the area.

Is that the cheesecake that was in a box on the dessert table at the picnic? If so, I'll agree that it was very good. I grabbed a small piece as I was walking by and didn't notice the label.

I've had Pticek's bakery 4-5 times, though have never been to the bakery. In addition to the LTHForum picnic PhilW, his wife's family owns the bakery, has brought Pticek bakery goods to various BBQ events, Paczki to the Salvation Army Pig cook and just last week to the Big Green Egg event at Cedar Hill. I've liked everything I've tried, but the rich buttery pineapple bunt cake I had last week goes in the must-have again soon column.

I stopped at Pticek's on a Sunday a few weeks ago, the one day of the week they are closed.

While I haven't been there as well, I can say I very much enjoyed whatever products I've sampled from there.

Try the bacon buns,some of the best. The kolackys are great,they use fresh fruit for the filling.Not real sweet but very tastey.The bismarks are also filled with great fillings. Try the almond,you'll love the flavor

Had I known what was laying innocently in a bag just to my right throughout lunch yesterday, I'd have pounced. By far the best cheese coffee cake I've had in many, many years.

After bullying GWiv for a slice for all "you gonna share that or take it home?" I admit a weakness for all things Danish or in this case Croatian, but this was a smash hit home run, that I for one need again very soon.

I work one block from Pticek's, but I've only had their sweet offerings thus far.

Could anyone elaborate on these bacon/onion buns? I'm very intrigued. How big are they? Are they basically a bread roll filled with bacon or onions?

they are kind a long bread( bun or roll ) & yes bacon & onions

Took the trek today to score the cheese coffee cake that I needed more of. If my girl is lucky, she'll get home in time to have a bite. If not, more for me.

Philw brought a few kinds of cheesecake for folks hanging out at Toons, and the stuff was really good. I especially loved the super-buttery shortbread-like crust. Based on that sample, I look forward to checking the bakery out soon for more of the offerings.

Having to pass Pticek's on the way to Kennedy High tested one's endurance not to pop in for a treat too often. Next door is the longtime thrift store known by locals as "John's Junk Store" a/k/a "Dirty Betty's." Another bit of trivia is the different ways the name's pronounced; my dad always said "Pea-Check" while others went with "Pa-tee-sek," "Tie-sek," or "Tie-check." Along with Weber's and Racine Bakery, Garfield Ridge has got great bakery options.

Great seeing Gary and Danny again last thursday and a pleasure to meet ReneG and philw. Aside from the great company and food talk I learned about Pticek's bakery. Some how at the end of the night I ended up at the bar with my buddy bartending and a whole coffee cake from Pticek's by my side. Lucky me cause all the food talk was getting me hungry as I was readying to leave.


I get from the packaging I will love this place when I visit

For someone whos not big on sweets or pastrys in general, I sure did enjoy this. It was a coffee cake that will make me a coffee cake eater whenever the urge for one comes again. The only thing I would not recommend is eating an entire cake in one sitting at 12:30 in the morning. Thanks for bringing it along Phil and also a thanks to whoever forgot it. I'll be getting back to Pticek's very soon to see what other treats can change my taste for sweets.

What a blast from the past! I lived a couple of blocks from there from the time I was born (1959) until my folks moved out to Naperville in 1974. I went to both Kinzie elementary school and Kennedy High School, which are both just around the block. In fact, that's the same sign that's been hanging at the bakery since the 60s. I can't remember much about the fare there, but I sure remember the sign. I'll need to stop in next time I roll through the neighborhood. First I'll stop at Nicky's for a hot dog (hope it's still there).

Yes I left the cake for DaBeef and Rene G. I was stuffed! The cheesecakes you brought Phil were amazing. The Turtle cheesecake was my favorite but I loved the pumpkin as well. can't wait to bring my wife out to check out this shop!

Thanks so much for the delicious cheesecake sampler from Pticek's that we were lucky enough to win as our gift last night at the Sun Wah extravaganza. We have strawberry, walnut chocolate, chocolate chip, and apricot cheesecake quarters. Or we did; much is already consumed. I am not normally a big cheesecake fan, but these are just outstanding. I don't get to the southwest side that often but am looking forward one of these days to trying more goodies at Pticek's with the gift certificate you generously included.

glad you enjoyed it . they have been then for a long time & is one of the old school place's left in the city
