Not near Chicago, but I got some yesterday from a bakery in suburban Atlanta and they were quite good. They called them neopolitan cookies.

If not, the Costco on Willow has them in their Passover baked goods section.

Purchased today in the Passover section (near produce) in the Jewel in Skokie near Old Orchard. I suspect this might be a seasonal product, available only around Passover.

EDIT: I just tried these, and was surprised to note that they don't contain almond paste. So if you're looking for rainbow cookies based on almond paste, don't get these.

From the worst (in my previous post) to the best. Fortunato Brothers in Brooklyn is widely regarded as THE place in New York City for rainbow cookies. I bought these there yesterday. Pardon their appearance, but I was forced to check my bag with the box of rainbow cookies in it, so they got tumbled around a bit. Despite the trip, they're awesome!

I bought these rainbow cookies within the past hour at Kaufman's in Skokie. (They call them "Jacob's Robe".) They're EXCELLENT! I had never seen them there before, and I suspect they're only around at Passover.

I'm anticipating a trip to New York City in a few months, so I thought I'd revisit this topic. I'll almost definitely get some rainbow cookies from Fortunato Brothers in Brooklyn, which I described and pictured above from a previous visit. I also googled "best rainbow cookies nyc" and in addition to a bunch of recommendations, I found a couple of interesting links.

Eater.com has an article about some modern interpretations of the classic rainbow cookies: The Stagnant Rainbow Cookie Is Finally Getting a Modern Makeover Across New York

Yelp has listings for best rainbow cookies, and their number 1 was Veniero's, recommended in a previous post in this topic, so maybe some of their listings might be good.

Has anyone tried the rainbow cookies from Scafuri Bakery in Little Italy?

I saw these in the "Kosher Jewel" on Howard today. (Unfortunately, there are no almonds in the ingredients.)

I just bought some from Hewn in Evanston, and they're very good! They call them "neapolitan cookies".

EDIT 11/28/23: I was in Hewn again today and when I didn't see them, I asked about them. They said they are always available for pre-order, but they don't normally have them in stock for walk-ins. I guess I just lucked out a few days ago!

EDIT: I was in Hewn 12/1/23 and they have a holiday menu which includes a neapolitan cookie box among their Christmas items, for ordering online (here) by Dec 20 for pickup Dec 23 or 24. This raises the possibility that these may be a seasonal item only available this time of year.

Hey, look what I found on the mix 'n' match cookie bar at Whole Foods today! And they're very good, too, with real almond flavor!

If you have patience, you may want to make them yourself:
