A few trips to Paielli's in the past month have proved this bakery to be a great alternative to area grocers. Some highlights:
*Wagon Wheel bread: Italian bread dough in small pieces assembled into large or small wheels before baking. Pull apart to eat. Small are around 11", large 16" to 18".
*Giant puffy Italian bread - the 1.5# loaf is ginormous. French is similar.
*Brat and other sandwich rolls - similar to the Italian bread, less crusty as they're bagged in plastic
*Intriguing English muffins. These aren't the dryish type from the grocer, they're puffy, soft and moist. Some people won't like them, but I definitely do.
*Donuts. Puffy seems to be a theme here - the raised donuts are very light. I especially like the
Cyclops, a chocolate frosted Pershing with a big dollop of buttercream on top. This might be a Kenosha thing - I've seen them at other local bakeries
*Italian cookies - similar to the ones at any Italian market or bakery, very good and pretty too
I definitely want to try their kringle but haven't quite found room yet. Many flavors and doesn't look too heavy on the icing, the curse of some Racine brands. We had their marble rye: It's very large pan style slices, again puffy, fine for sandwiches but not as ryeish as the smaller soft loaves from Piggly Wiggly/Butera (most likely from frozen dough) or the really good stuff from Sendik's. There's also a pretty well stocked/well priced dayold rack.
