If you've never had freshly ground Rhode Island Narraganset flint corn meal--well, it may not make much difference in your life, but it does in history, as this is considered the only cornmeal from which to make Johnny cakes (aka Jonnycakes). And the only place I know of that sells this is Gray's Grist Mill in Rhode Island. But now Gray's is up for sale (the owner, shown in the video in the post linked below, passed away last year). One can hope that it will be bought by someone who isn't thinking "housing development." Yo see the video and learn a bit more about Gray's, here's a post I did about it a while back.

And if you know someone in Rhode Island who wants to buy a grist mill...

Update from the miller, George Whitley -- just got this email today.

    Hi all,

This is my last day here as your Miller at Gray's Grist Mill. The mill has been sold.

It has been an honor to play a small role in the 350 year history of this mill.
It has also been a privilege to meet so many thousands of you who love real Jonnycakes, milling and history.
And it has been a joy to be in the Heart of Adamsville.

We all love real Jonnycake Meal. I have great relations with my farmers and other mills that carry this meal. I will be glad to share any info with you. My cell number is 508.801.6743 and my email is georgewhitley@comcast.net.

One door closes, but a better one opens up.

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

Just as an fyi, this info is posted on their website (including the miller's phone number), so I am not sharing anything that is not already public. Just bringing it to your attention.

Fun recipes and history on the site, as well. https://www.graysgristmill.com/
