I think the last Arthur Treacher's I remember seeing was on Greenwood just south of Dempster (there's a car dealership now). I don't remember much about it - had to be at least 25 years it's been gone.

But it was better than Long John Silver (low bar). Why doesn't fish and chips succeed as a franchise? Boston Fish Market is a little more upscale, Don's Dock and Captain Alex a little closer.

We were at Tapas Barcelona Friday night, and they had a special described as potatoes with tempura-fried tilapia. Not what I'd expect from a tapas joint, it was basically a version of British fish & chips. But instead of tartar sauce, the dipping sauce reminded me of an Asian sweet chili sauce. Actually tasted pretty good, but are there examples of fish & chips from Spain or Catalonia that I'm not aware of?

It'll be interesting to see how the Arthur Treacher's thing plays out. Back in the heyday of AT's and H Salt's, big white meaty hunks of Atlantic cod and Icelandic haddock were pretty cheap and available. Today, not so much.

That's a really good point: fish used to be cheaper than beef. I don't see how a fish & chips meal is going to be price-competitive with a burger combo meal.

However, if it's targeted at the fast-casual instead of the fast food, the price point might be high enough to work: Chipotle vs Taco Bell; Five Guys vs McD's... they've just got to market it right (and, sadly, probably offer non-fried options and/or keto breading....)

I’ve noticed that ever since LSJ’s split off from Yum Brands, the number of restaurants they have has really dropped. I know at least four locations that have closed. I’m sure the ones that share locations with KFC or other Yum brands will lose their spot to other Yum Brands. Fast food seafood places seem to be a dying breed.

I have been dragged to Long John Silvers twice in 2019. After the second try, I made sure that my wife do a 2 minute video so that we do not have to do it again.
