Well, alrighty, then. I know how beloved he still is in some circles. Shows you how little I know, though. I can't believe there's any demand at all anymore for a Ditka-branded steakhouse, let alone increasing demand that warrants opening more of them. More power to Da' Coach, I suppose. :?

Tee from Aroy Thai Restaurant just opened Eighty Eight Eggs a few blocks north of Aroy on Damen. Bright, clean, delicious.

A few Thai influenced dishes along with well made American breakfast staples. More Thai to come as time goes on. I've been once loved it, will post in detail when I go again.

After 47 years on Rush Street, Pippin’s Tavern is turning a corner — literally. The Irish pub, which closed in June 2020, will reopen in a much large space — with a kitchen — inside the former Devon Seafood + Steak at 39 E. Chicago Avenue in mid- to late-September.

New bagel and sourdough bakery is coming to Ravenswood. R&A Bread Bakers is opening in the former home of a Subway. I think they've been around at farmers markets before. They have bagels of course but also bialys, schmears, lox, etc etc. Looks pretty good

Eater reports Arami Owner Plans New Bottle Shop Cafe for Lincoln Square

While Fujimura didn’t speak much about Entente, he did announce a new project, a hybrid coffeeshop that also sells beer and wine near where CTA Brown Line cars are street level in Lincoln Square. Fujimura says Rockwell Bottle Shop & Coffee, a 1,500-square-foot space is not a bar. It’s where friends can hang out, have a quick conversation with friends or a barista, and then come home with a few bottles from the his store’s curated selection of craft beer, wine, and sake.

Fujimura is hopeful that Rockwell’s Bottle Shop and Coffee could open at the end of October at 4634 N. Rockwell Street, next to Rockwell’s Neighborhood Grill. It won’t have a full espresso bar, so doesn’t expect lattes: it’s just drip coffee and some tea. Being so close to the train, they’ll have some simple breakfast offerings.

“This place is more about that 2 p.m. coffee,” Fujimura says.

The story raises more questions than it answers. The block between Eastwood and Leland now has Rockwell's Neighborhood Grill, Pizza Art Cafe and Beans and Bagels.

Tiger Sugar is opening their first Chicago location in Chinatown soon. They are a chain from China serving up brown sugar boba drinks with real milk instead of cream. They opened up their first US location in NYC a few years ago (Flushing) to huge lines. Since then they've opened up outposts in a number of other cities. They're good but I'm not sure I'd wait in line for THAT long for it. Definitely good though.

They're also opening up one downstate in Champaign.

    Opening soon...

In the spot of a former Burrito King, a new Mexican take-out venture has opened. Barca Birrieria focuses on goat meat. I took out from there a few days ago. :) Image Image Image Image Image I am unused to dining on birria. My dinner included a consome, which I was clueless as how to incorporate with the quesabirrios and rice. :?

When I walked there, I noticed this closed mini-market, Bel Park Liquor (4752 W.), across an alleyway from it. It might reopen. But noticing all the faults a City inspector detected therein, it might not. :?: Image Image Image

Only one actual "opening" at the Willis Tower food court, Sushi-San is now open in the kiosk near the South entrance. Brown Bag has also reopened so the first floor food court is now fully operational with Do-Rite, Shake Shack, Rick Bayless' Tortazo and Sweetgreen. Everything's easily a buck or two above overpriced, but it's nice to finally have some options. Oh, and the sushi was "fine" by lunch kiosk standards.

Urbanspace, the city’s first new food hall to open since the pandemic, will debut later this month at State and Washington. The food hall will feature 12 restaurants with familiar local names like Isla Pilipina, the beloved shuttered North Side Filipino restaurant; Edzo’s Burgers, the popular Evanston griddled patty specialists; and Sushi Dokku, a mini version of the West Loop Japanese restaurant.

As a Mundelein resident, we supported Lori's venture from the outset. And while their dining room was fun, homey & very 'family', Covid had to have done a number on them. Their food is consistent and bakery is great. Good luck!

Cafe Orchid has been listed online as "Temporarily Closed" for awhile. There is a new zoning application up to tear down the building they're in, on Addison, and replace it with something else. That something else does have ground floor commercial/retail in this proposal.

Just letting everyone know that Cafe Orchid might be no longer in that location - hopefully they'll move to another location in the city if not going back into the potential new building there.

A huge grocery store is poised to take over the vacant CVS site on Milwaukee Avenue.

Independently-owned grocery store Farmer’s Best Market, which has locations in the Brickyard Mall and suburban Northlake, is looking to open a third location at 2065 N. Milwaukee Ave., co-owner Nick Merikas said. Merikas said they haven’t finalized the lease yet, but they’re “90 percent sure” the deal is moving forward.

In the spot previously occupied by China North in Wheeling (corner of Wolf and Camp MacDonald Roads, opposite corners are Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights), Chinese Munch In now says "Open Soon".
I'm not optimistic -- there's a Chinese Munch In in Arlington Heights with a lot of negative reviews. But it would be good to have a nearby quick Chinese lunch place, if I can find one dish they do well on the lunch specials.

The X Pot, a high end hot pot/wagyu concept coming soon to Roosevelt Collection, applied for a liquor license on Friday. They were supposed to open in Chicago first, but then the pandemic happened and ended up opening in Las Vegas first. Word on the street is that they're supposed to open up probably in the next month or so.

    Apparently, not related:
    https://whatnowchicago.com/what-if-synd ... old-coast/

But What If Syndicate isn’t stopping there. The group will debut its newest concept, Delilah’s, in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, Danny Grant confirmed in a brief telephone conversation with What Now Chicago Thursday.

The eatery, which filed a liquor license for 847 N State Street, is not affiliated with Lincoln Park’s Delilah’s, a bar owned and operated by Mike Miller, a What If Syndicate rep confirmed.

It doesn't really say what the place will be, but chances of it being "nice" and/or semi trendy are probably high.
