Was in Buffalo Grove this evening for fireworks, and I noticed that the spot that used to be home to Mango Leaf has a cloth banner hanging on the outside announcing that it is now open as Hyderabad House. Specialize in biryana, but I grabbed a menu and that is far from all they offer.

Also noticed, as driving through the parking lot (this is the strip mall at 83 and Lake Cook Rd.) that there was a "now open" sign up at a new Georgian Bakery and Café. So new, it's not even popping up on Google searches.

Starting on Thursday, fans of Mott St’s juicy double-stacked burger will no longer be dependent on the West Town restaurant. A spin-off dedicated to serving the burger, Mini Mott, opens in two days in the former Jam space at 3057 W. Logan Boulevard Logan Square.

This is incorrect. I stopped by yesterday. They're not open yet and I was told that they won't be until early next week.

I rarely respond to these forums...for a variety of reasons. But I feel the need to. Yes, Mini Mott was open yesterday. They served between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. I just spoke with ownership, again. Regular hours start next week.

I mean, check out social media, or were these photos staged?

They had their soft open yesterday from 5-10pm, and those are their hours today and tomorrow as well. Sunday it's 11am - 3pm. Regular hours begin next week, 11am - 10pm weekdays and 11am - 12am weekends.

Not sure when you stopped by, but they definitely did a service last night and will be again tonight.

UNO Gurnee has closed! Email received July 9, 2018:
Est. 1943 Uno® Pizzeria & Grill Goodbye Is Never Easy. It's with sadness we write to let you know that our UNO in Gurnee has closed. We have enjoyed being a part of this wonderful community and will truly miss the friendships and partnerships we have made. Our entire staff will sincerely miss serving you and we thank you for sharing your time (and appetite) with us. Even though we won't be here with you, we hope you'll visit other UNO locations in your travels - we know they'll take good care of you. It was our pleasure to serve you. - The Team at Gurnee -

I agree wholeheartedly when it came to comparing pizza. Having grown up in Chicago, I started eating UNO deep dish pizza in the early 1960s along with DUE and Gino's East. All were excellent.

After retirement, I moved to Libertyville in 2001. I was happy to see UNO in nearby Gurnee but was really disappointed in the pizza. Thinking they might have had an off day, I gave it a few more tries with the same results. Years later, I met Jay Martini who said that the far northern suburbs are where good ethnic food goes to die. Sadly, he seemed to be right. I spoke with a person who worked at both the downtown Chicago and Gurnee locations who said the pizzas were "different."

A few years ago, a friend and I who both love good cheeseburgers tried many places in the northern burbs. We ranged from the popular places like Steak 'n Shake, Five Guys,
Red Robin, Ruby Tuesday (when they were still here) to the more acclaimed Paradise Pup, Jake Moran's, Mickey Finn's, Firkin, Prairie Grass Cafe (where the $18 burgers were half price on Wednesdays), Inovasi and the now gone David Burke's Grillhouse in Schaumburg.

We were surprised to find we rated UNO Pizzaria and Grill in Gurnee always in the top three for cheeseburgers. My number one was David Burke's Grillhouse where I heard they used trimmings from their dry aged steaks in the burger meat. It was the best burger I ever had served a perfect medium rare. My friend's number one was Prairie Grass Cafe mainly because she preferred Sarah Stegner's blue cheese sauce on her medium well done burger which she ate with a knife and fork -- no bun as intended by Chef Stegner.

I won't miss the pizza at UNO Gurnee but I will miss the burgers.

By all accounts the bad pizza at Uno in Gurnee as all about it being a franchisee, not being in Gurnee. Uno franchises across the country are known for giving not only the original Uno and Due, but Chicago pizza in general a bad name for years.

Which begs the question "why did they allow it to be changed at any location while still calling it UNO?" It brought down the name UNO/DUE and I haven't been in any location including the originals for years. I just can't get that taste of the franchised versions out of my mouth. On the odd occasion when we need to take visitors for Chicago "Pizza" Lou's get's the job done.

They were selling a concept that didn't lend itself to a fast-food experience. Nobody in New Hampshire is waiting an hour for a pizza to show up at their table, so they came up with a poor compromise. To correct nsxtasy's comment, Sewell's widow ultimately sold all the locations to the franchisor company after obtaining the promise that the original locations would stay true to the original recipe.

Cedar House at 655 W. Armitage has a "Closed for Remodeling" sign across their entrance.

Late Bloomer in the New City Complex closed after service on June 18th as per a sign on their door.

Sedgwick's Bar and Grill at 1935 N. Sedgwick has been locked up tight during posted business hours this weekend with nothing posted on their door, website, Facebook or Twitter to explain why they're closed.

So the hope that Street Smoke and Steam would recover from 'equipment issues' never happened.....

In it's place will be the soon to open JoKer's Cajun Kitchen. Menu peek shows they will jump on the continually escalating price structure for downtown lunches (and breakfast, an $11 biscuit sandwich??) - just hoping the quality will match.

Replacing Yeero Revolution at 1009 Davis in Evanston is Chicago Hot Dog & CO. I know nothing about the place but will nevertheless predict that it won't be very good. The name just has bad juju. A great Chicago dog joint should have a punny name or be named for the owner/founder.

Worse yet, if you're going to name a place Chicago Hot Dog the last place you would want to do it is in the Chicago area.
