Trying this again! Longtime LTH lurker, first time posting. I went to Habrae last weekend (and ran into the Forest Park St. Patrick's Day parade...whoops!)
Drinks - Yok Lor Coffee, Habrae Welcome (Pandan Tea)Both good. The pandan tea was very lightly sweetened. I'd prefer it a little sweeter. In boba tea terms, this would probably be 50% sweetness level.
Appetizer - Chive CrispyThis was my favorite savory dish of the entire meal. They have a good variety of app options, so next time, we'd probably do 3-4 apps and a few desserts.
Entrees - Grilled Pork with Sticky Rice, Khao Kang Karee KaiThe lighting was bad, so I gave up on taking pictures at this point. The Khao Kang Karee Kai reminded me a lot of Japanese katsu curry. Good but absolutely not spicy, even with the 1 pepper rating on the menu. While I liked the grilled pork, it didn't wow me. Not sure if it was charcoal grilled, which is my preferred grilled meat method.
Desserts - Kanom Tokyo with Pandan Custard, Young Coconut in Black Sticky Rice, Pandan Pudding, Toddy Palm Cake (Khanom Tan), Kabocha Squash with Egg CustardWe were full at this point, so we got desserts to go. Owner recommended reheating/serving instructions. I would get everything again except the kabocha, which I felt was a little dry (I ended up adding some butter and salt). I wanted more egg custard to balance it out better, but I'm also not the biggest kabocha fan. Kanom Tokyo and the young coconut were a little sweeter than the other desserts, but not overly sweet. Pandan flavors were all on point. The toddy palm cake (Khanom tan) reminded me of butter mochi cake texturally.
Overall, looking forward to going back and trying more apps and desserts, especially the ones that need to be served on site like the roti or bread set. I've read that the khao soi is also supposed to be good. Happy with the friendly service and attractive space.
