I grew up in Northbrook and frequently ate at the Northbrook Barnaby's. Their pizza has never disappointed me -- always excellent, crispy, crackly thin crust.

I was thrilled when I first found out that there was a Barnaby's near my office (the one on Touhy), but nervous at the same time because of the unevenness I had experienced at other Barnaby's over the years. But I will say that the Barnaby's on Touhy is every bit as good as the one in Northbrook, and I visit it often.

Thanks BR for the comparison note.

As I started to read this thread, I was thinking I'll have to just go and try Barnaby's Northbrook sometime.

Over the years I've taken numerous people to Barnaby's on Touhy Ave by O'Hare (Des Plaines location), all have been very happy campers, including myself.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Not a problem - but I'll say that while I'm still a fan of the Barnaby's on Touhy (was just there last week actually), I now definitely prefer the one in Northbrook . . . I think they do a better job with the crust.

It's been a long time since I've been to the Touhy location but generally speaking, I only like the Northbrook location. I actively avoid the Niles location on Caldwell. Their pizza is a far cry from Northbrook's.

I don't recall being a fan of the one in Niles either . . . note that the one on Touhy is in Des Plaines.

I was thinking that would a perfect time to try a couple/few different pizzas at the NB location. On that date though, I'll actually be traveling around the Amalfi Coast & Naples, home of pizza! I'm just guessing it is going to be much different than Barnaby's!

I made a horrible mistake Saturday night and I am embarrassed to admit it. I saw Ronnie's pic of his pizza from that day and I hadn't had Barnaby's in too long, so I was thinking about picking one up. But I really didn't want to leave the house and started with the excuses. Realizing I had a frozen Connie's Deep Dish pizza in the freezer, I decided to save my money and time and relax at home while trying yet another frozen pizza. I don't why, but I figured the pizza was going to be like Malnati's or Gino's East... you know, real deep dish as it calls itself with sauce on top. As soon as I opened it, I was in trouble. Well as soon as I put it in my shopping cart I was. It was terrible. Typical Connie's with the rubbery cheese on top. Bready, doughy, bland crust, with the sauce being lousy and the cheesy flavorless. I never cared for Connie's anywhere I've had it, but their damn wording of deep dish sucked me in. I won't make that mistake again!

Sweet Willie, you will love Barnaby's of Northbrook!

I've never had a frozen Connie's, but I always imagined that it would taste exactly like the Connie's pizza served at the various sporting arenas around town, which always taste like frozen pizza to me.

I haven't lived in the area for very long, but there is just something special that I've already come to love about Barnaby's. It's not just the excellent, super-crunchy thin crust pizza either. There's an old-school, cheerful, hang-out-after-the-game-with-your-little-league-team vibe at Barnaby's that I dig. It's one of my favorite GNRs.

So naturally, we headed to Barnaby's tonight for our little guy to have his first taste of pizza. He liked it. A lot.

I ended up eating at Barnaby's of Northbrook twice last week and both times the pizzas were perfect. I'm excited that after 4 years of building up my startup insurance business that I can finally start go out for lunch if I want to and Barnaby's will immediately be in the rotation. Hard to believe that I'm excited that I can go out for lunch, something that most in the work force always take for granted. Dare I say, Yay! :)

A Northbrook pizza institution will be closed for a few days after it was damaged in a fire Saturday morning. The Northbrook Fire Department said the fire started around 5 a.m. at Barnaby's Family Inn, located at 960 Skokie Road. The fire was contained to the restaurant's roof, officials said.

You do realize that after the nuclear apocalypse, all that will be left will be cockroaches, Keith Richards and Barnaby's.

If the fire would have been at the Caldwell location (still there? no idea) I would've wondered if they had found my fake ID from 1974.

Oh, you're so funny, Dave. Even before my fake ID, I had a fake firearms ID that I laminated in the Super X drug store. 'Course, I was barely shaving at the time and it didn't work very often.

But...there was a White Hen Pantry on the NE corner of Touhy & Kedzie that would sell beer to anybody. Oh, the lengths we would go to snag a sixpack of Old Style! :D

Our group of eight had a great dinner tonight. Good call on meeting at 5pm. We placed our pizza order right away and it was ready in about 20 minutes. After we got our pizzas, they got slammed. Folks were lined up to the door to place orders. Most were carry out.

One person at our table needed to order a pizza to bring home for his wife. Rather than stand in line, he tried calling his order on the phone from our table. No luck. Busy signal. Ended up getting in line. His pizza would take an hour.

Pizzas as expected were stellar. Great company too.

I and my most fanatic Barnabys comrades have noticed a decline in pizza quality here these last few months. Not the same Barnabys pizza. Crust and tomato sauce different. Seems like it could be different, cheaper ingredients, or something.

Something is amiss. I know because for the first time in decades, we have been ordering non Barnabys pizza for take out. And enjoying it more than recent Barnabys visits.

    Anyone notice this?
