I was at the Wilmette Green Bay store last night, and entered in my mymixx number, and the Enlightened did not come off, and I did not get any gas rewards, but I just assumed it was because I did not enter my number in time. I miss the self checkout. It seems like it takes forever for the screen to come up to enter your mymixx number, and if you don't buy a lot, it often does not come up in time, and I have to ask the cashier to enter my mymixx number. Some cashiers have no problem doing it, and some others would rather not be bothered. When I asked last night if my Enlightened came off, he checked and it did not. The person that was bagging, then took $3.99 off, but I noticed I did not get my gas rewards.

I don't do apps in general, and I don't always carry my cell phone with me, and so I hope we don't need the app to get the mymixx freebies or gas rewards. I am going to post this on mashupmom's Facebook page. There are a few people who post there who have insider info for Jewel. Thanks, Nancy

    HI,

Last week, the guy in front of me had four cans of tomato sauce and eight packets of gravy. I asked him what he planned to do with all the gravy. The cashier piped up suggesting to give to a food bank. He inquired what to do with all those small cans of tomato sauce. I suggested making Mexican rice with it.

On a separate note, we had a rib roast for Mother's Day dinner. For the gravy, I cooked onions and mushrooms until they had released their liquid and it had evaporated. Whatever fond I could scrape off the pan went into the mushrooms. I then pour in a Jewel mushroom gravy powder, stirred it around and added one cup water. I have no idea what Jewel gravy may taste on its own, but it was a good collaborator in this gravy.

    Regards,

I don't know if food pantries can use unlimited packages of gravy mix. The problem is what do people do with it when they get it when they can't afford to buy meat? I use my tomato sauce on pita pizzas which I make in the summertime. I take a whole wheat pita bread, and then I spread tomato sauce on the top, and then I add whatever veggies I have such as mushrooms pepper or zucchini, and I also add some shredded cheese, and then I broil it for a few minutes.

I am part of a panel for Albertson's, where they send out surveys periodically to fill out. You are then entered in a drawing for gift cards. So far I have not won anything. I just got a survey from them yesterday, asking my opinion about the latest Monopoly game that just ended. They also asked for suggestions on how to improve the game. One of the main complaints I had was that most of the instant winner prizes were awful, and I especially disliked the gravy mix and the bottles of aspirin. I also mentioned that you needed a lot more Fandango codes to get a Fandango GC than you did last year, and that I thought the Universal codes were worthless. I am glad the game is over.

According to a manager at my Jewel, they changed something in the MyMixx program recently which has caused a lot of problems with the freebies not being recognized at check-out. I've been able to get the free items, but it requires an override. I don't know how this impacts the gas rewards as I don't use them.

I know people who had a Just4U account at Dominick's and used a different phone number for it the mymixx would not work unless you used your old phone number. I asked at mashupmom if anybody knew anything about you needed the app to get the free mymixx. There were people there who had no problems getting their freebies, and then there were some people who had to ask the cashier to manually override the register. I would check with Albertson's CS to see if they had my phone number if the freebies were not coming off. Also I have been told that you cannot add the freebies to your mymixx account right before you check out. It takes a while for the computer to process the info, and so it is best to do this before you head to the store.

I think the reason why my freebie did not come off on Saturday was because I did not have enough time to enter my mymixx number before the cashier finished ringing up my order. I only bought 7 items. The woman in front of me spent $249, and so I am sure she had lots of time to enter in her mymixx number. I miss the self check out lanes. Hope this helps, Nancy

I spoke with a Jewel customer service rep today. She said I was given incorrect information by the customer service manager at the Wilmette store. The freebies on the MyMixx Saturday Morning Sampler are available to everyone with a MyMixx account, not just people who have the phone app.
Like WillG, I have not been receiving emails the last couple of weeks about the Saturday Morning Sampler. And I appreciate The GP's information that many other people besides me are having trouble with their accounts not registering at checkout.
Sometimes I feel as if the title of this thread should be changed to Tomfool-ery.

I took a pass for exactly that reason. It looks like something that you'd see in the frozen food case at a dollar store.

Saturday Sampler should be Zico Jalapeno Mango and Uptime Energy Drink.

Clip coupon by Sunday 5/20, redeem by Monday 05/22
Products are subject to change. Check your MyMixx before planning your trip and update your Jewel-Osco app to their new one if you haven't already.

In case anybody is interested. I was at the Jewel on Chicago Avenue in Evanston last night, and they had tons of ground turkey on clearance. They had Laura's natural ground turkey, which was on sale for $3.99. Most of the Laura's packages, also had a $1 off manager's special coupon on them. They also had lots of Perdue ground turkey on clearance for $.99 too. All of the turkey that was on clearance had an expiration date of 5/19, which is today, and so you would have to cook it today or freeze it.

This store often has fantastic clearance sales on lots of other stuff too. There clearance stuff is often 75% off, but last night I did not see a clearance cart out.

I dove into the shredded-beef version for lunch today.
My first thought was that it's as if Taco Bell did a riff on a frozen pot pie and then smashed it flat to save on packaging costs.
There are three flaky tortillas with two layers of filling. The mildly spicy refried beans in the filling overshadow whatever shredded beef there is. The scattering of chopped bell peppers over the cheesy top seems like an afterthought.
The tortillas were greasy, but I found the thing kinda tasty. The complete lack of visual appeal leads me to think that the ideal marketing demographic would be stoners.

    HI,

I wasn't around when my family cracked into the ground meat Mexican pizza. Mom thought it was too spicy. Dad seemed to like it far more.

Thankfully there were two in the box to keep to all even Steven.

I did find the item at the Wilmette store in the bulk (nonspecialty) cheese section. Be aware that they are tiny: 2 ounces. Blink and you might miss them.

In other news, suddenly there is an avalanche of the free-with-a-Monopoly-coupon tomato sauce. But still no aspirin.

    Hi,

I have been thinking about the Jewel gravy give-aways.

It probably is not the worst idea in the world to give them to a food bank. It is an opportunity to season to their food. What you probably don't see at food banks are spices and herbs.

My local township office serves as a food bank. They have a 'wall of shame' display of long ago outdated food. My favorite was made by General Foods, who has not existed as a brand name in a very long time.

I had to ask for help finding them, as they were in a small corner of the cheese wall, and by the time I arrived Friday at 5, they had already dwindled to four packages in two flavors. But I got one -- Big Bold Buffalo -- and they were very tasty. Single-serving packages. Strike me as being useful for lunch boxes. But thanks for the heads up -- would never have found them without you.

Just in time for lobster roll season, Jewel has Pepperidge Farm top-split hot dog buns. Maybe they've been there a while, but I haven't noticed them anywhere but Sunset before (previous summers, I mean).

Also, the Bellatoria ultra thin sausage Italia pizza that Jay recommended is on sale for $5 til June 17th. I tried one last night, and I think Jay's right. Surprisingly good (thin and crisp) crust and toppings, and I say that as someone who hasn't much liked any frozen pizza I've tried lately.

The Elston Ave & Skokie Mariano's both sell split top brioche buns in their respective bakery departments. Probably other Mariano's do, too. The buttery brioche makes for some really decadent lobster rolls!

As usual, at least half the battle is trying to figure out what aisle has the freebies. I have no idea where they are at the Skokie store. After not finding them in the granola section or near the registers, I wasn't going to wait in a long line at customer service to find out.
Happily, the Wilmette Jewel is a block from my office. I took a break this afternoon to find the goodies next to the customer service desk in that store. Serendipity was also coming across 77-cent pineapples just inside the front door.
