    Hi all!

Whenever we go get Japanese food, we always end up getting sushi, or ramen. I would love to go and try some more casual, low-key Japanese foods that normal Japanese people might eat on a more regular basis.... I read about Renga-Tai, but I was hoping to find something closer to Chicago (we live in Avondale). Does anyone have any suggestions for places to check out?

Futatsuki Ramen in Uptown offers several other izakaya dishes in addition to ramen. I personally love their chicken karaage and their katsu curry.

Kizuki Izakaya has izakaya dishes in addition to ramen.

I miss Sumi Robata/Charcoal Bar they had some great izakaya dishes.

RIP Sunshine Cafe in Andersonville. It would have been perfect for this.

I second Futatsuki. All the non-ramen dishes I've had have been excellent (love the ramen as well).
