Jimmy Jamm Sweet Potato Pies deserve to be known about by the world. This place's careful focus on one humble root vegetable is highlighted deliciously in every slice and spud preparation. If you've only had a sweet wedge to go in its plastic conservatory - I recommend the turtle, have some milk or black coffee handy to cut - you may have missed the playful spirit of the people and place captured in their (limited, rotating) hot offerings onsite, or on their well-tended Facebook site:

This has been my pocket nomination for the past few years while focusing on other South Side businesses, and I'm happy to ante it up this year. After Old Fashioned Donuts at Authentaco, I think the Jimmy Jamm has every precedent for taking over more of the virtual and real love on any side of the city. Check it out the next time you're at Top Notch or doing another South Side boulevard progressive (it pairs well with just about anything). This is the kind of place where you might just be handed a piping hot bag of sweet potato fries while you're waiting for cheesecake because you look hungry. That just doesn't happen much anywhere else.

Indeed. Still a big fan of Jimmy Jamm's, a spot I continue to laud as much for the absurdly good, friendly service as for the food itself. The pies remain well worth the long trip to pick up from time to time. Great nomination.

I strongly support this nomination. Jimmy Jamm's is another place that's been on my list of potential nominees for a few years now. I'm glad to see the JJ crew is finally getting the attention they deserve.

I feel that if JJ's was in an area like Lincoln Park or Highland Park it would've been a GNR a while back, thus you can put another one on the board for 95th street.

I also support this nomination. Without question, the sweet potato pies are great, but what I also like are all of the other creative ways that sweet potatoes are incorporated into their baked goods. I tried sweet potato bread and it was very good. During a summer visit, I think I even saw sweet potato ice cream.

I am happy to support this nomination. What a gem! We ventured here last Saturday for the first time. This place is almost all kitchen and a few tables, but they must be doing well because the owner said they are renovating to have more seating. The owner was charming, all decked out in his chef jacket, and happy to regale us with the history of the jimmy jamm recipes. Loved the pie and red velvet cake we had. This should totally be a GNR

It's a surprise they've only been in business since 2006. The place feels like they've been there forever. Super charming store front and fantastic sweet potato pie. Full support!

This nomination has my enthusiastic support. I have such fond memories of my first visit there during the South Side-a-thon which was years ago. And mrsm, that sweet potato ice cream is delicious! Do try some next time.
