Okay, I just called S&W to reserve a table for 10 at 12:30 on the 29th. If it doesn't work for most who want to come, I can cancel, but I figured it'd be best to lock something in.

If more want to come, I can up the number.

Reservations are in my name. Please respond to this thread if you want to come.

Friday, I am sure has many advantages, but the wines on Monday (9/25) seem the most interesting. Any desire to change the date? Not that I'm forcing the issue.

Regardless, thanks for setting this up/taking the iniative, and I should be there (on either/both) dates.

Damn! This is the 2nd major event that I'm missing due to vacation. Oh well, I'm sure all the lobster rolls and fried clams that I'm eating will help me forget about the picnic and wine week.

    Best,

    VI,

There are MORE on Friday. :D

A leisurely lunch on Friday seems easier to achieve than a leisurely lunch on Monday, but let's see how others weigh in.

We have room for 10, and here's where we're at:

    1. Vital Information (would prefer Monday, but will probably be there most of the week, including Friday)
    2. SteveZ
    3. Bruce
    4. G Wiv
    5. Nr706
    6. Hammond

Certainly an august gathering, and likely to become more august as days go by. We have room for 4 more...and even more than that, I'm sure, should need arise (though Fridays do fill up -- we learned that last year).

I was reviewing comments about last year's event, and although we all enjoyed the meat and the camaraderie, several of us commented on the lack of running commentary by the sommelier. I'm thinking I may contact S&W, and do what I never do, which is "out" us as a group from LTHForum who would much appreciate a little backstory on the wines we're getting. We're not looking for special service or anything more than you'd expect from a generally competent wine server who knows his product -- i.e., a little talk, a little insight into the grape, some food for thought.

Is the 22nd too late to add one if I find out I can make it by then. I'm having surgery on the 19th and if it's scoped only I should know how I'm feeling by the 22nd. If I have to be opened up then I should also know by the 22nd if I'll be able to make it on the 29th.

John, you make 10, which is what the reservation is for, so that's cool -- hope your surgery goes well.

If anyone else wants to come along, just post here -- I'm sure I still have time to add another two or more to the table.

The 2nd Annual Convention of the He-Man Meat Eaters Club of Greater Chicago* will convene as planned with the following rapacious carnivores in attendance:

    1. Vital Information
    2. SteveZ
    3. Bruce
    4. G Wiv
    5. Nr706
    6. Hammond
    7. JiminLoganSquare
    8. Evil Ronnie
    9. Pdaane
    10. John Chase

I just called to request a table on the first floor (last year several grumbled that we had to sit in the perfectly comfortable though out-of-the-way river-level dining room); Claudio will request one for us.

*Women invited, of course, though none seemed too keen on coming this year.

John Chase had some shoulder surgery last week. He won't be making it.

I'm thinking about taking the South Shore to Randolph Street so I can drink more and not drive home. Arrive around 10:30 and catch the 4:00 or 5:00 p.m home.

OK, and when this rite is over, do I get to know the secret Lambda Tau Gamma* handshake and drinking songs?

    * Because gamma is the closest analogue to "H" in the Greek alphabet; kinda like how they refer to Shakespeare's "Gamlet" in Russia.

Watching Russian television in another era, it was a bit disconcerting to hear Hitler referred to as Gitler.

My all time favorite was an English-Russian television show where they were talking about Gary Belafonte in English. I kept yelling back to the television it is HARRY Belafonte.

    One other point...

....I just called and now that we're down to seven, we qualify for one of the cool round tables. If you get there early, talk to Jack...he was the guy who said he'd put us down for a round on the first floor. You might want to reinforce that we would like to sit in a circle, tribal style, as we re-enact the primordial rites of the Red Meat Maniacs Meeting, 2006.

Many people taking the train there...bodes well for the afternoon.
