I just phoned Sweets and Savories and they told me that, given the speed with which their foie gras dinner had sold out, they are having two more on June 20 and July 25. So those of us who missed the first dinner have a second (or even a third) chance. We have reserved for the 20th.

Not that I'm complaining, but, uh.... isn't that second date after the ban takes effect?

The ban takes effect on August 22nd.

Ah... nevermind. Must've been working off of early speculative information.

Yeah, I guess the way you calculate when a new ordinance takes effect is similar to calculating when Easter Sunday is.

Doesn't it go into effect 90 days after it was passed? That would be July 26 or thereabouts.

Chicago Tribune's Restaurant Notes wrote:And just when will the foie gras ban take effect? According to the city's department of law, the effective date of the ordinance, which was passed on April 26, should be Aug. 22 (it's complicated). So there's a little time yet for a foie-gras feast within the city limits.

Well, since I was lacking before in getting in on it, I think I will try to make it to the June 20th event. Can't wait to hear people's feedback after next Tuesday.

ETA: Just called and made the last reservation for two (They may have 1 single seat left - and you are welcome to join my party). If I cannot get one of my friends to join me, I will ask if anyone else would like to join! Dinner starts at 6:30 PM. Does anyone else here already have a reservation?

I would suggest calling now for the July dinner if you are interested in going.
