We had discussed visiting the new BBQ restaurant (scheduled for an “early spring” opening) called Falcon Eddy, from the group behind Bat 17, around the corner of Davis and Benson. Turns out June 20 is their definition of “early spring.” So … Plan B.
Moetchandon and I originally wanted to try a different new Jamaican restaurant in Evanston, but upon looking inside, it seemed a little too small, and not especially welcoming for a group like ours. So we ended up at Good To Go Jamaican Cuisine.
Admittedly,
the Evanston Lunch Group has been to Good To Go before … but that was over ten years ago. And, Good To Go has moved across Howard Street, into larger, spiffy new digs that are actually within Evanston’s border.
With only the two of us, we didn’t have much ordering power, but what we had was very good, and portions were generous.
Jerk Chicken Wings Jerk chicken wings were mild, but the accompanying sauce had plenty of heat.
Ackee and Saltfish Ackee with saltfish was also a mild version of the classic Jamaican dish, featuring the scrambled-egg-like fruit along with rice and peas (aka beans) and plantains.
Brown Curry Shrimp Brown Curry Shrimp with Mac and Cheese (also with rice and peas) … also a good choice.
So lunch Wednesday June 13 will be good to go at Good To Go, 12:30 pm. Let’s get some serious ordering power and sample much more of the Jamaican menu (I’m up for sharing an order of Cow Foot).
