Maybe I'm mellowing out in my old age. Or, it could be a one off. We actually agreed on the May destination at the April LTHNLG gathering. An encore visit to Bontà is due. We ate quite well at our last visit. Let's reenact the gathering.

Please join us on the 31st for good food and company. As always, bring a friend.

I love Bonta, and am always looking for an excuse to make the drive up there. If you don't mind having an occasional interloper from the big city, I'd like to join you.

If Mom can make it, Cath, we'd be happy to have her. At least she doesn't ask for my Monopoly tickets...

Their Napolitan pizza oven was already built last time we met there, wasn't it? Their pies are pretty good, one of the best of that genre around, certainly in Lake County.

Only a business meeting would keep me from this one, Count me in.

Our Esteemed Coordinator, a-skeered of being poisoned by hemlock by the proletariat, has taken to buying his friendships by picking up the check for the whole group as of late, so the world's the limit in my eyes.

But realistically, it shouldn't total more than $20-$25 a head at most, could be less.

Isnt Bonta more fast casual style where you order and pay at the counter and then the food is brought out? If so, everyone will probably order and pay for themselves so the cost is whatever anyone wants to get, not the usual split the check kind of thing. My memory is suspect of late though.

This is great news! Let's put off the overthrow a little while longer.

Will, your mental aim is true--

Yes, they have a sandwich/soup counter where you can order and they bring it to your table. Actually, a half sandwich and soup (about 12 choices sandwich, 2 choices soup) @ $7.95 is a nice deal. And whoever wants to do that, fine.

But last time we ordered some sharing dishes for the table as well, such as Caesar salad, roasted vegetables, maybe an antipasto if memory serves. And we divided the cost of that. So we could do that in place of or in addition to...

Bonta is branching out into the full meal/pizzeria type outfit (which can be ordered all day), although I must say that lunches--and those specials I mentioned above--are quite the value and their bread & butter that time of day.

What do people want to do? Inquiring minds wanna know...

EC’s preference is to order a bunch of stuff and share in the bounty. However, EC will go with the majority of the what the minions prefer.

My preference is just the opposite: I prefer to order something for myself, for my main course at least. I'm all for sharing some appetizers or other things.

I don't remember what I had last time and I don't remember the pizza oven being running then, but anyway I'm intrigued about trying their pizza Napolitano this time.

Bonta's Napolitano is "Tomato sauce, anchovies, oregano & capers." I've never had it at Bonta, Katie, and it sounds fetching, but check this out--I had a Sicilian version of this in Rome last year:
Pizza Siciliani.jpg Pizza Siciliani @ Elle Effe, Rome

It was excellent, with some briny olives and red pepper oil. No cheese, which is a plus in my opinion. Joel's been to this place in Rome, if I recall.

I think, if everyone's cool with it, that we can order off the lunch, dinner or pizza menu on our own but I will order medium-size family-style antipasto (meat, cheese, olives), roasted vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, red peppers, etc.) and Caesar salad to share. With 12 or more of us that will be a nice little taste of everything and not too pricey as an add-on, on a per person basis.

    See youse next Thursday!

We're going to stick with J's ordering scheme for tomorrow's soiree. Feel free to order your own food off of the menu for your main course.

    See y'all tomorrow!

You may want to make the shared food a separate bill to keep it all clear.

Whatever you do, I am looking forward to it.

    Not a bad idea, Cathy.

Not to micromanage, but usually at lunch--and I think it's going to be that way today--you queue up to the sandwich counter, decide what you want from either their lunch specials, pizza or entree menu. They also have a blackboard easel with pasta lunch specials. You'll order with the cashier, pay and we'll have a big table in the 'pizza room' in the rear of the place. They will bring out each person's selection to the table.

I was over there yesterday and set it up with Antonella that she would make an antipasto tray of meats, cheese, and roasted vegetables for us to share, also a Caesar salad, that would come out first for us to nosh on.

Came across this old post and, just sayin', Eddie...
I had some hope of a shake-up when I realized how much Eddie -- in a white military uniform and dark sunglasses -- would look like Pinochet, but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that the coup has not yet happened. I never could get a Chileno to do anything for me during the summer vacation months.
