In March the Evanston Lunch Group will meet at Bluestone in Evanston. Comments about this nearly 20 year old restaurant Bluestone mention it’s craft beer selection, great burgers, interesting and tasty sandwiches plus a very thin crust pizza. The owner of Bluestone is the original owner of Candlelight in Chicago so positive descriptions of the pizza are no surprise. A favorite of their homemade selections is the key lime pie, originally made by the owner’s mother.

Join us on March 14 at 12:30 at Bluestone and perhaps after lunch you’ll want to walk across the street to pick up a few things at GNR favorite, The Spice House.

    P. S. The Spice House is having a special competition to celebrate their 60th anniversary but it ends next week, before our our lunch event. Could be a fun challenge to enter and nice prizes.

Thanks for the link to the contest. I'm there at least once a month, but was unaware of the contest.

I cannot yet commit to lunch will try to do so.

    Fun gathering.

I think most of us agreed the best dish we had was the smoked chicken wings. Nice smoke, nice flavor - just the right amount of heat.

I think EvA said it best ... it's college food. Lots of carbs, cheese and a very good beer list.

I agree with Lou, that the standout dish was the Smoked Chicken Wings, served with both chunky blue cheese and ranch dressing.

I also liked the Onion Strings ... simple, and not as greasy as the onion loaf at Hackney's.

Loaded Tater Tots would also fall into the "guilty pleasure" category. The jalapeños were a nice touch.

A little less successful was the Spinach-Artichioke Quesadillas ... a bit on the gloppy side.

Despite the caramelized edges, I think many of the group thought the BBQ Chicken Pizza lacked balance, although the thin crust was good. A more conventional pizza might be a better wording choice here.

We finished up with a credible version of Key Lime Pie.

Overall, a good option for bar/college food to accompany the good beer list (Although Beer on Central, next door, might be an even better option for sampling interesting beers.)
