That’s very generous of you Helen. The group is massive. I will start fasting now!

Thank you Helen! You embrace my philosophy to ‘build a longer tabke’! This will be a lovely gathering to anticipate after the holidays.

HelenG wrote:Hi everyone! I’m really looking forward to hosting the next dessert exchange. Here is the format, copied from prior exchanges:

    1. I will serve a light vegetarian supper. It is likely to involve salad, bread, and quiche.

    2. Each guest should bring one recipe of a dessert—an old favorite, something you’ve been wanting to try, something you’ve recently been making and striving to perfect, …..? No doubling or tripling of recipes is necessary.

    3. Bring containers to take portions home!

    4. Come hungry!

Make whatever you like. Because some members do not eat meat or drink alcohol, make sure to tell everyone at the outset whether what you make contains ingredients such as lard or booze. I am confident that there will be more than enough to satisfy everyone!

If you need to cancel, please do so on this thread. Also, if it's within 48 hours of January 21, please message me as well.

We have three cats, one of whom will almost undoubtedly remain hidden.

I am expanding the guest list to the 14 who have signed up to date, but anyone signing up after this post will need to go on the wait list.

    Hi everyone,

I’m excited for this upcoming exchange. I recently received Ottolenghi’s “SWEET” for Christmas so hopefully we will make a couple things out of there.

Cohen1524 let me know that she will not be able to attend. Please remove her from the list of attendees.
Have a good day in the kitchen.

I know that the plaque may be afflicting some of our participants. So I am sending out healing prayers to those of you who are battling colds and other crud.
I am planning to make Melissa Clark’s Extra Bittersweet Pots de Creme (it seems January is a chocolately kind of month?) and a little biscotti on the side, just because.
Thank you for hosting us Helen. Looking forward to making my way north (and west) on Sunday! Celia

    Helen,

Thank you for hosting this month’s exchange. Regretfully NerdyKnight and I will be backing out of attendance. I have some work obligations coming Monday and Tuesday that have stolen my focus and concentration in all sorts of directions.

Everyone please enjoy a bite for me. It’s always a wonderful chat with everyone because we all share not only an interest in the food, but the passion as well. I will miss all the desserts everyone has planned!
Have a good day in the kitchen.

    Hi,

At last week's Culinary Historians meeting, there was a slide showing culinary students making ice cream by hand. The initial reaction was they needed an ice cream maker. They had one. Their churning the ice cream by hand was a local custom.

This could turn out to be a gloppy mess. I am going to try to churn ice cream by hand, too. You will learn the results with me.

    Regards,

Thanks to Helen & her DH for hosting such a fantastic afternoon.

Soup salad, cheese, and homemade bread to start with bread plates!

And folks were not playing with their elaborate and delicious desserts. It was all First Class Deliciousness.
