We're hanging around Lake County for the November outing. This was one of the rare occasions when I showed my hand at an LTHNLG meal. Please join us on the 14th. As always, bring a friend.

As an added bonus - after lunch, there will be an optional field trip to the Ralph Lauren outlet store in Gurnee Mills. EddieK will be providing coupons to any attendees.

Yeah, why not? I loved meeting with Ed and his family when they had the place in North Chicago, then not for very long in Libertyville. It'll be good to see them again.

And...the rib tips/Polo shirts as a one-two punch sound good to me. It's about all's I wear, from the snazzy ones to the t-shirts, and the coupons bring their overpricey-ness back down into the proletariat range. Not that EC/Poobah would know much about the lives of the proletariat, from his perch up in the ivory tower.

Looks good for me. Going to have to give the catfish a try since it was great years ago at the north chicago location. As a true leader, I assume that the EC is going to take on the 3 pound burger challenge.

We missed you. Lunch was top notch. When I got home, both my dog and wife sniffed me suspiciously.

pretty boring ordering by the group.....among 5 of us we had 2 fried catfish and 3 burnt ends, though both were excellent. I think that the catfish will be my go to when i go back. Fortunately for dining diversity, I got some pulled pork, rib tips, and hot links to go.

Agreed, Will. The two catfish fillets have a very thin, slightly-spicy-but-not-incendiary-by-any-means breading that really offset the piping-hot, flaky fish. Loved it. The piece of burnt end I negotiated from Eddie for a taste of fish had great moistness & bark. And Big Ed was as convivial as ever. Good lunch.

And oh yes, the coupons for the Polo Ralph Lauren store (up to 70% off) will put Eddie & myself in our expected sartorial splendor for our next meeting.

Another wiener by the EC. He's on a roll!

The last time I ate at Big Ed's was at their Libertyville location. So I was looking forward to this lunch.

My experience was not as favorable as the others. I had the burnt ends which were good, but not as great as I remembered. I was disappointed with the sides. The beans had a nice flavor, but were only lukewarm. The mashed potatoes were basically room temperature. I complained and was told there was nothing they could do.

Given my general experience with Big Ed over the years, I'm sure I'll go back for another try.
