Well, Mardi Gras time has crept up, and again I say Laissez les Bon Temps Roullez!
Here's some of the fun from last year: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=31093&hilit=Mardi+Gras&start=30#p365590

I am proposing the Mardi-Gras friendly date of Sat afternoon Feb 18.
    NOTE: TIME CHANGE!
I am shifting the time somewhat to 3PM- 8ish to accommodate the musicians in the group-
I hope this doesn't throw a wrench into anyone's plans too badly...
My place is in the Northern suburb of Deerfield, very close to the Deerfield Road exit of either the Edens or 294.
I'll be PM'ing address and directions on Thursday night.
I am also only 1/2 mile from the Deerfield Metra station,
and if neccessary we could organize a commuter run....
I am going to cap attendance at 20ish-
Bring something Cajun, creole, or southern.
I'm thinkin I'll do some Gumbo, and I still have an ample stock of beads to "throw" in!
We may even convince Mr. H to have a repeat performance of live Cajun and Irish music to enjoy while we eat and socialize ....

    Woo hoo!
I'll bet you thought I forgot!

    Attendees:
    Irisarbor+ : Gumbo + an appetizer tbd
Cathy 2: pork shoulder and grits
Pairs4life+1: meatless red beans/rice, boiled peanuts
    CookieMonster +2: exotic paczki
Mrs Ingie +1: Sweet potato pie (Mr. H will be SO Happy :D ) smothered okra, and corn bread, ?beignets?
LauraS +1: Shrimp Creole + King Cake
Abe_Froeman +Mr. Maki: Bananas Foster Bread Pudding & Ice Creammmmmm
    Fresser: tbd
Newbie Friends Ginnie & Dave : tbd
    Asst Musician friends

    HI,

Sure, especially since you are less than 15 minutes from my home!

Thank you for your willingness to do this.

    Me + 1 please.

I'm bringing Red Beans & Rice, sans meat. It was a big hit at last year's dessert exchange at my home. I can also bring a jar of boiled peanuts.

Dear Iris, I'm so glad to see that you and your family are willing to open your home to do this again. Please count me +2. My sister who came with me last year will be with me, as well as my other sister. Thanks!

I would love to join, not sure what I will be bringing yet. It was great last year.
Maybe I will bring langniappe so people can take it home as last year we could barely move.
Is it ok if I bring my two cookie monsters with me?

Count me in with a plus one. The sweet potato pie was a hit last year, so I'll bring it again along with the smothered okra.

I am thinking of making red beans with ham and andouille sausage (pairs4life is making meatless red beans), unless anyone thinks that's too much red beans, in which case I'll come up with another idea.

I was going to suggest that I switch from Sweet Potato Pie to a King's Cake, but that may provoke an angry response. I could perhaps make one pie and one King's Cake and no okra. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like this is coming together so nicely-
For those who are not sure what to bring-
The Jambalaya and etoufee categories are still unrepresented favorites...

I spoke with Dobra last night and she's had both my sweet potato pie and King's Cake and suggested I make the pie. So, I will stick to the original.

I am 99% sure Mr. Maki and I are available that day, but it's sticking out in my head for some reason, hence the 1% uncertainty. Assuming it is a good day, the two of us will be there and we'll bring paczkis from Bennison's.

If Dobra is coming, she is the pazki making queen! Sorry this is so far for me.... sounds like a lot of fun and good food! I'd go for crawfish etouffee

I'm not going to make it, I'm afraid. Can't pull my team together and it doesn't look like I'll have a car available on Saturday. Better to let you know sooner than later, I suppose. It was great fun last year and I"m sure it will be for all of you again this year. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

Katie, we are only 1/2 a mile from the DF train station, and if the weather is bad one of us can run over and pick you up.
