Rosario's is, sadly, closing down. The folks at Preservation Chicago are trying to salvage a piece of Chicago's food heritage by preserving the iconic neon sign from the storefront. Ideally, they'd like to see it on display somewhere that it can be seen by the public. Thoughts?

There's also The American Sign Museum in Cincinnati that features several signs from the Chicago area. We've been there and it's pretty dang cool!

    Lou,

Will you keep us posted on what happens? I have two Rosario t-shirts with the happy pigs jumping to the grinder.

Once when I was visiting Rosario, they turned on the neon allowing us to see the full routine.

If and when a videoclip is made of this neon sign's routine, please post it here. I thought it was a really wonderful piece of neon art.

    Regards,

Ya know, if you want to keep it in Chicago, the Chicago History Museum has some significant pieces of local neon memorabilia hanging in their lobby. A sign like that might be extra appealing to an organization celebrating the "Hog Butcher To The World".

    Hi,

I just saw I know someone on their staff list.

I believe this is where there is a replica of Hot Doug's with furniture and related artifacts.

While it would be in Chicago, it is not exactly a place that is open to the public. However it will be well taken care of and very likely restored, which is not an insignificant consideration.

Thanks, Cathy2! Did not realize it wasn't public -- will let the folks at Preservation Chicago know.

It should be moved to Fulton Market. It would look great on PQM.

Damn! PQM is a *great* idea! Anyone here who can put me in touch with Paul Kahan or one of the other partners?

The Ravenswood Event center has a similar space with vintage neon signs.
