Last night I met two interesting people who are working to launch a food museum in Chicago. They're calling it the Foodseum (hmm) and they've got a web presence here: Foodseum

Apparently they're on the hunt for a 5000 square foot space, preferably a former restaurant, where they can launch a pop-up museum and food space.

    I am intrigued.

Agree with that hmmm regarding the name -- too close to ad nauseum -- but like the idea. It will be interesting to see how this develops. I signed up for their email alerts.

Foodseum, the city's first food-centric museum has found a home for the next three months. The museum will display its first full exhibit on the second floor of the Block 37 shopping mall starting Sept. 19 and running through Dec. 20.

Opening its first temporary location in the Loop's Block 37 urban mall on Saturday, Foodseum, Chicago's first food museum, will have a meat grinder with Play-Doh, a rideable mini Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, and more educational fun in addition to the spice-smelling and more in its inaugural exhibit, "The Hot Dog and Encased Meats of the World."

I received this in an email the other day:

Thanks to your support, Chicago's first food museum is almost here! Can you believe it? In just THREE DAYS, we'll be popping up our first temporary exhibit, The Hot Dog and Encased Meat of the World, at Block 37.

The doors open to the public at 11 AM on Saturday, September 19 and you won't want to miss our special guest: Chicago legend Doug Sohn of Hot Doug's fame! It only made sense that the king of encased meats would help us celebrate our first exhibit.

Our volunteers have been working their buns off to pop-up this eye-opening exhibit in just 30 days. Come admire historical artifacts, travel around the world through your nose, and learn everything you wanted to know about Chicago's favorite dish: the hot dog! If you can't make it Saturday, be sure to stop by soon. Here's where you can find us:

'The Hot Dog and Encased Meat of the World'
    September 19 - December 20, 2015

    Block 37, 2nd floor
    109 N. Dearborn

Sat - Sun: 11 AM to 6 PM
    Mon - Tue: CLOSED
Wed - Fri: 11 AM to 7 PM

    Admission: FREE

We can't thank you enough for all of your support since our Kickstarter launched in December, and we're so excited to show you how it all came together. This is a big step toward our dream to open a permanent food museum in Chicago! See you Saturday!

Not sure if they have had any other exhibitions (or a physical presence in Block 37) since their first one on hot dogs, but they have a lineup of films on local food businesses: http://www.foodseum.org/foodseumfilms/
