I think it's much better written than the Wells piece and focuses on some issues that Wells doesn't specifically mention (even though they appear to have fueled his ire) . . .

at Observer.com, Joshua David Stein wrote:But what makes Mr. Fieri truly reprehensible is that he’s exploited a mythology that appeals to the downtrodden to deliver unto them cholesterol and all its long-tail misery. By advocating an America in which the symbols of our salvation—manufacturing (embodied in those classic cars), rock ’n’ roll (the old guitars), and a return to the rough-hewn America of yore (the vintage flags, the faux taxidermy mounts)—becomes linked inseparably with a place in which pepperoni and mozzarella deserve to be rolled in panko breadcrumbs and deep-fried, where the quantity of sauce on a fry demands even more frying, where chicken alfredo has many thousands of calories, Guy Fieri is using patriotism as a Trojan Horse for his infectious and insidious garbage.

What I find offensive about this review is that the reviewer considers Guy's DDD food as "junk food" while I find it as a guide to good local mom and pop food.

Restaurant reviews are as much entertainment as consumer information. As such, Pete Wells' review was epic. I wish I could see this kind of hilarious snark in the Chicago Tribune, but no such luck - just 2- and 3-star ratings accompanied by a bland description of the dishes consumed.

Here is a blog post by a guy that went to Fieri's American Kitchen after reading the Wells review. Although not nearly as entertaining as the review that prompted the visit, it seems more objective. It is accompanied by photos of the food which make me think that given the choice between American Kitchen and the nearby TGIFriday's, I should choose the latter. The most revealing (and revolting) photo is of the Steak Diane, which at $31.50, is the most expensive item on the menu.

I chuckled at the first comment which says "As I predicted, the scathing review will only drive more people to Guy's restaurant."

I also enjoyed this Onion video that was linked to in the article. The comments from viewers who thought the Onion parody was real, are almost as funny as the video. That always happens with the Onion. Those guys are just too good at satire.

Someone has bought the domain name for the restaurant and put up a fake menu here. I'm pretty amazed that they were opening a restaurant of this scale (with this budget) and didn't even buy the domain name of the place.

funny, but it's kind of a ripoff of Patton Oswalt's Black Angus and KFC Famous Bowl bits ... (very not safe for work :) )

Couldn't find a link to the video of the customers giving their own reviews that they asked us to watch.

    Steve--

Wait for the advertisement video to run, it's followed by the man-in-the-streets.
