So I mentioned the idea of Restaurant Haiku in another thread, I guess I should kick it off. I'm going to try avoiding the restaurant name (some Lettuce Entertain You places would use up all the syllables anyway), part of the fun will be guessing. To revisit the classic rules for Haiku-- the form is five syllables, seven syllables, then five, and the aim is to capture the evanescent impression of the moment, or some dang zen thing like that.

    Mighty dog poses
    As carhops bring Whoopskidawgs
    Crinkle-cut smothered

    As businessmen gab
A knife sized for Viking chiefs
    Cuts dry-aged red flesh

    Where fashion meets blight
    A mad Asian scientist
    Makes pie in pipettes

    In fire and lard
    Hens spin like red dervishes
    Did we time it right?

    Astringent, this root
    Drives out viral invaders

    Suburban food in city
    Why do they bother?

    Mediocre food
    Tables full on the sidewalk
    warm September night

    Fried catfish, okra
    Mashed potatoes and gravy
    Sweet Southern Goodness

(the above is not a local Chicago inspired reference, though this is available locally; it was a memory of the first really GOOD food I had at college in Auburn when I discovered an off-campus, family-owned cafeteria that put the on-campus institutional food to shame. I didn't renew my on-campus meal plan and still clearly remember my first foray into the Tiger Cub. To this day one of my favorite comfort meals is fried catfish, fried okra, mashies/gravy, greens and blackeyed peas. Though I still am an unsweetened tea person.)
