FYI...Paddy O'Splaines has not been open the last two days and there is no sign of life inside. There isn't a note on the door as to being temporarily closed, I have not been able to reach them via phone, they have no voicemail and their facebook page links to a website promoting viagra. I'm not really sure what's going on but wanted to post for people considering purchasing this BunchBite.

Perhaps the explanation is on the list of revoked liquor licenses at the State of Illinois Liquor Control Commission, which shows license revoked on January 7, 2011.

Frankly, I'm surprised Paddy O'Splaine's has been open as long as it has. After one memorably terrible experience, I wrote it off, as did the 8 other friends who were with me.

    Hello everyone,

We are presently looking into the earlier comments about Paddy O'Splaine's status and will post our findings very soon. Due to the heavy snow, many businesses are closed today, so perhaps they are not open per one of the comments on this forum because of the blizzard. We will continue to look into this.

As of now we do not know of any problems with this restaurant offer. I did find that the website on the Facebook page is incorrect. The correct website is http://paddyosplaines.co/

    Thank you for your concern.

    Sincerely,

    Samantha and the BunchBite team

    Hello again,

I wanted to inform everyone of our findings and thank you all for tipping us off to various details about Paddy O'Splaine's. We have found that the liquor license was indeed revoked, but the restaurant is still open for business.

Thanks again for your concern and I am sorry for any inconvenience or misunderstanding.

    Sincerely,

A few hours ago, after a 5-day investigation, you posted that all Paddy O'Splaine coupon purchases would be refunded. Now, you have edited or deleted that post. I appreciate that you are flying by the seat of your pants here, but it seems that refunds are only fair since the original pitch was for "food and drinks."

    Do the right thing, BunchBite.

I noticed that too. My guess is that bunchbite never got the requisite 500 people to participate in the deal, so the poster realized that no one was ever actually charged and edited the post accordingly. I have just enough faith in humanity to believe that 500 people could not have been dumb enough to buy this.

    Hello everyone,

The reason that post was put up and deleted is because I was misinformed. A person, not in charge, gave me the wrong information. Later that day I heard that the offer was still valid because the restaurant is still in business ("food and drinks" does not specifically mean alcohol. Drinks include any beverage you have to pay for (meaning soda, coffee, tea, any beverage a restaurant features is called a "drink"). I in no way want to misinform or rip people off.

Also, the "investigation" was concluded in as timely a fashion as allowed. The snow storm made it difficult to contact the people at Paddy O'Splaines to verify that the restaurant was indeed open. I posted as soon as I had information, but I was faulted in posting before talking to the official person in charge. That was a mistake I hope to never make again. I am young. Live and learn right?

Once again I apologize. Please remember that I am doing my best to keep everyone informed about everything. We are not trying to be sneaky or offer people deals to bad restaurants.

    I appreciate everyone's input.

    I'm sorry again for everything.

I will note that the term "open for business" is misleading...I live across from Paddy O'Splaines and it has not been open since 1/30/11. It is dark again tonight and there is nothing posted on the door, website(link provided is a blank page), no answer on the phone, and no voicemail. While BunchBite states that they have verified with an "official person in charge" that Paddy O'Splaines is open, they may want to physically visit them during business hours to see for themselves. While I understand it may not be financially conducive to their business model to physically verify every restaurant detail, it may restore some confidence in purchasing from their website if concerns have been raised. BunchBite's handling of this "deal" has left me skeptical of purchasing any future "deals" from their site, even with the charitable aspect.

    Samantha,
The notion that "food and drinks" in the context of an Irish-style pub was not meant to include alcoholic drinks is silly, at best. Your explanation that "any beverage a restaurant features is called a 'drink'" seems the equivalent of Clinton's famous line "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Although technically true, are you sure that this is the way that you want to do business?

I repeat, do the right thing, BunchBite.

I have confirmed with a representative of Paddy O'Splaines that even though they lost their liquor license and the doors are locked, there is a small hood vent out back that opens to the outside. Since air still moves freely through the hood vent, technically Paddy O Splaines is open. I acknowledge that this definition of "open" may mislead some people, and I'll mention that to the committee.
