Best Place to get those long Hero sandwiches near Evanston?

Where would best place be to get those 6' Hero sandwiches near Evanston. Where they could do vegetarian, as well as the usual. Where do they taste the best?

Jewel or Donimicks makes those really long ones, and you can specify the ingredients you want inside. I'm not aware of any Delis in that area that make them except maybe Kauffmans.

Not too far over the Evanston border is Capt'n Nemo's. That's their original location. I spent a lot of time there when I lived in Rogers Park.

During my collegiate days in Evanston, a number of my peers preferred the taste and walking distance of Al's Deli on Noyes, just east of Ridge. Being short on cash, I only frequented it a couple of times, but the sandwiches were pretty decent. It is open mainly during lunch hours, but is closed on Wednesdays. Here's what else I gleaned from metromix:

Actually we checked out Al's Deli, just a few blocks from our house. It is our daughter's favorite sandwich place. But they can only make the regular sandwiches and then just 8 at a time. Another place for sausage and meats is the kosher place Romanian Meats on Clark

The problem with those super sized subs is that, invariably, they are made on this huge soft crappy excuse for a roll. There is so much bread on this thing that the sandwich fillings are completely overwhelmed. All you taste is bread, bread and bread.

Recently, I hosted some folks at my house and opted for three regular long loaves of italian bread from The Riviera on Harlem near Belmont.

The result was enough sandwich to feed an army, quality meats, cheeses and bread. It tasted like a sandwich rather than a big loaf of store bought bread. The cost was even a bit less than those six foot monstrosities.

I had six feet of sub (in three pieces) for under $75. One Will Special, One Italian, and One Roast Beef with Roasted peppers and Provolone.
