Does anyone have a recommendation for a leak-proof thermal food jar that will keep food warm 4-5 hours? I would like to use it to pack stews and soups (for my kid's lunch). The lunch bag does not stay upright since everyone's lunch boxes are put into a big bin.

My Stanley Classic Vacuum Bottle (aka green thermos) has never leaked but I've only ever used it for beverages, not foods. They offer a bunch of different sizes at Amazon.

Thermos makes quite a few containers of different capacity and profile. They've got some competitors, too. Head to your local Target Meijer or Wal-Mart to see a bunch of them.

Another idea would be to get a vintage lunch box that includes a thermos as part of the kit.

Thermos customer support said that their containers can leak if they are not kept upright for a prolonged period of time. I guess that I can buy one food jar and see if it works well enough for my purposes. I think that I will try this one: http://www.thermos.com/products/vacuum-insulated-16-oz-matte-black-food-jar-with-folding-spoon.aspx

Oh, come on, you can use it for everything. I had coffee thermos, but it was pretty big, so I used it for food as well. It was a real hell when I tried to clean it after, but I just found an article at https://keepithot.co/how-to-clean-a-thermos and learned how to do it properly. If you don't want to spoil yours, you can buy and use another one, but.. trust me, you don't need an extra one, if yours is pretty big. Just try once and then decide if that's suitable for you.
