    Hi,

I play Monopoly, too, though it fosters frustration. At some point my card is nearly full with one or two gaps per winning category. It never gets filled.

What I do like are the instant win freebies. Last year, I had bagels, donuts, coleslaw, potato salad, French bread and cookies.

I do the online portion, too, because it had some online children's activities (which went to friends). Last year it was 10 fandango tokens before you received a discount ticket or movie rental. I had a few, but I never acted on it.

I tried to get a teenage relative to do the online cooking classes. I don't think she did any.

I was intrigued by the photobooks, though I never collected any.

So far this year, I have exactly one instant win bagel/donut. It seems stingy compared to last year.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

    Hi,

I could not remember the secret word. The cashier was quite sweet, she pointed to the words on the box I needed to say.

I got the buttermilk and honey, too. My sister got the chocolate.

This is so much fun! Thanks for keeping us up to date on these.

So, pardon my having to ask again, but do you have to have the secret item in hand plus say the secret word? Or do the cashiers have the secret item at the checkout?

You bring the product to the checkout. I always say "Word of the day" and whatever the secret word is as I'm handing the product to the cashier.

    LOL -
I did exactly just that. I found them after looking it up on line, and looking at the picture/size. The ones in my store were near the fresh meat/ground turkey/fresh sausage area.

Jewel guys at Libertyville guided me to the frozen section. Cashier said it was the wrong size. I went back, then three Jewel employees pow wowed until one guessed it might be in fresh meat.

Now I hope it tastes good! I got the Korean BBQ meatballs.

I went straight to the frozen section too despite the fact that I'm the one who posted the pictures of them. Upon checkout the cashier informed me I had the wrong package but told me exactly where to go to find them. They weren't any Italian so I went for the Korean instead.

Wishing to avoid last week's meatball run around, I went to the service desk to double-check what was really offered. The choice of a 32-oz lasagna for $6.99 or 20-oz meatballs at $4.99. I went with the lasagna.

    Thanks Artie for these updates.

I didn't see the post about the free food -- just happened to be at the store and heard one of the clerks say, "and you can grab a package of meatballs or lasagna--it's free." Boxes were piled just opposite the end of the checkout lane. I asked what the deal was, and she said I could take my pick, too. I took the meatballs.

It is interesting how the different stores appear to handle these freebies. Cynthia, it sounds like your store is promoting them. I have done it a few times at my Lake Forest jewel and at mid-day I am always the first person to do it, and sometimes they have to spend a lot of time finding the item. This weeks was typical as the manager had to check 3 different places in the frozen area before he found them. The checkers always have the sheet telling them about the promotion though. I too got the lasagna, though I dont think it will compare well to the lasagna I had from R & V deli this week!

    HI,

Oddly, the week before the Lake Forest Jewel had a piece of paper wrapped around all the qualifying meatballs explaining the word-of-the-day.

It is just not consistently handled.

Cathy, They also often change the word at the last minute. This Friday there is supposed to be a WOD for Innovasion Chicken fried rice. Supposedly the word is 'Chicken Fried Rice". We'll see if that changes.

That indeed happened to a friend who wanted the lasagna. He stated what was in your post. The cashier declined to accept it or hint what it may be. He did a search to find it online and got it.

I already grabbed my two butters , (and I'll probably wind up buying plenty more) but I'll also add...
The California Navels, check your store if you like those. 49c /lb. I bought about 15 of them - massive, sweet, easy to peel. It's time. I'll be buying a cartfull on my way home from work today. We eat these like CRAZY when they are in season.

I suggest bringing documentation with you (e.g., Facebook page on smartphone) based on my experience today.
The customer service manager at the Skokie Blvd store insisted "Veggie" was not the complete phrase and denied me the item. The Jewel Facebook page would beg to differ.
(With this denial and the phantom Monopoly prizes, Mariano's is sounding better and better right about now.)

    Hi,

I did not run into any problem at the store I visited today.

I hope you will comment on your experience on Jewel's facebook page. I don't think they want you to have this kind of negative experience.

The express line cashiers were asking where to find it. So they would have an easier time later. One commented she is not much on vegetables, but free is a good reason to try it.

We then began comparing notes on the freebies via the Monopoly game. None of us knew anyone who wins cash or prizes, though we do enjoy the freebies.
